Okay, we haven’t had a road trip yet in 2017 and so today it’s time to correct all that as we have a trip to Delavan in the works for our 33rd week of sandwiches! Can’t believe that after this week we’ll be under 20 weeks to go on this food tour! Time flies when...hey...what’s that...
Oh, it’s a knock on the door...I should get used to this by now, but it would wreck the beginning of these road trip blogs! And look who’s here, it’s Willie Nelson! Great to see that you’re back on the road again, Willie, but we’re waiting for someone else. So you can go back to your touring van and blaze away! Let’s try this again!
Okay, now we’re cooking, it’s MBIP pal, Contributing Writer and official road trip Wheelman, Scott Turley! Time to hit the road for the first time in 2017! Yahoo!
Off we go into that somewhat wild blue yonder! And in a Rod Serling-like moment, there’s a sign post up ahead...we’re officially in the Delavan Zone and there’s today’s destination, The Farmhouse!
Right after I took that picture, Derek, the owner of The Farmhouse came out and informed us that the place is closed for their annual employee Christmas party! I guess I should’ve called, but I was under the impression that Christmas was like over a month ago! Stupid me! And so now it’s back on the road and time to improvise! Luckily, after driving around some, we spied this place in our travels...
It’s TNT’s Sports Bar & Grill’s East Peoria location! I’ve done blogs from their Peoria Heights pub, but never from this one, so Scott and I decided that this is going to be this week’s sandwich stop! And none too soon, I’m starvin’ like you know who over here!
As usual, Scott has beat me to the bar and that’s Carrie behind the aforementioned bar serving up an ice-cold beer! As you can see, there’s plenty of sandwiches to choose from and Scott and I placed our order, so now let’s take a look around in here!
As you can see, the back of the bar is a sprawling sight and there’s plenty of lit-up inventory back there! There’s round tables opposite the bar to sit at and another dining room farther back. And then there’s a doorway to...
Yet another dining area, complete with tables, booths, a stage (there’s open mic night here every Thursday from 8 to 11PM), and a pool table. And there’s a door that leads to...
An indoor beer patio/garden. They open this up in the summer, but in the winter they batten down the hatches and add a little fire for warmth!
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
Our appetizer has arrived! Scott’s a regular here and he suggested we try the onion rings. Scott’s an onion ring aficionado, so I took his advice and he was not wrong! These are so delicious! Light and fluffy with just the right amount of batter per ring! There’s Scott enjoying some of them at the bar! They were so good!
And here’s the items for the main event today, our sandwiches! Scott got his favorite, the BLT with fresh-cut fries. I went with the Philly Cheese Steak and even before I could start taking more pictures of it, Scott dove in to the BLT and gave it a tongues up...I mean, thumbs up!
This Philly Cheese Steak sandwich looks so good and as you can see, there’s a generous portion of thinly sliced steak, melted cheese, grilled onions, green peppers and garden-fresh lettuce! And notice the bun, it’s buttered, toasted and bakery fresh! As I always say, the bun or bread can make or break a sandwich and this definitely makes it! I had to eat the sandwich in pieces because it was too mammoth to pick up! It was so tasty! The steak was savory and it blended so well with the rich and creamy cheese and the onions and peppers added just the right amount of kick to it. And this may sound funny, but the lettuce really added a lot to the sandwich! It’s possibly the freshest lettuce I’ve ever had on a sandwich and it added a nice garden flavor to the mix!
We’ll definitely return to The Farmhouse in Delavan, but this was a great improv stop on our sandwich journey! Thanks to Carrie and everyone at TNT’s for the great food and service and thanks to MBIP Wheelman Scott Turley for driving and hanging out! It was a blast as always! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
Sandwich Rating
Three and a half Dagwood Bumsteads—The sandwiches are great here, fresh ingredients, buttered toasted buns and each one is cooked fresh to order! And don’t forget to try the onion rings, some of the best in Peoria and beyond!
