Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night, starring this week’s host, Lou’s Drive-In with special guest stars, the entire Lou’s crew and featuring The Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher! And now, direct from their last Saturday night in the 2016 summer season, please welcome this week’s host: Lou’s Drive-In!
Here we are at Lou’s on a Saturday night, but it’s not just any Saturday night here at Lou’s...
It’s the last Saturday night at Lou’s until the next season comes around. Yikes, a sure sign of summer ending in Peoria is Lou’s closing for the summer season. At least I don’t have to go back to school anymore, but I do have to go back to work on Tuesday and that’s enough to drive a man to drink! Thankfully they have the best root beer in town, so our thirst will be quenched soon!
As I made my way through the tables to the Lou’s main island I ran into Mike Sabol and his family who were enjoying the last Saturday night at Lou’s with a summer meal outside at one of the tables in front. You may not know Mike’s face, but if you listen to WMBD you’ve probably heard him on air, Mike’s the afternoon traffic reporter and the evening news anchor. That’s Mike with his wife, Rhonda and his daughter, Lee Ann. Great to see all of them and now it’s onward we go towards our last summer supper at Lou’s Drive-In!
As you can see as we make our way up to our seat at the Lou’s island, it’s really busy tonight as everyone’s getting in the last Lou’s fix in before it closes! The Lou’s girls are busy behind the counter, but...
Colleen grabbed me a root beer and took my last order for the season and as it’s being cooked up in the kitchen back there, let’s take a final look around in here before it’s closed until next year...sob!
Savanna and Addie were seated next to me and flashed a couple of pretty smiles for the MBIP Camera!
I love the hand painted signage that’s lit up over the Lou’s Island. It always reminds me of Coney Island!
There’s a shot of the tables out in front of Lou’s that face Knoxville Avenue. And there’s a shot of the other side of Lou’s and look who I ran into in my travels, it’s Libby, Annie and Lucy who are not only all working the last Saturday night of Lou’s, they’re all cousins! Very cool and if you keep scrolling along, you’ll see the entire Lou’s crew on duty this final Saturday of the season!
Lou’s is not only famous for their ice cream, hot dogs and root beer, they’re also known to have some of the best popcorn in town and it’s a big seller here. A lot of people get bags of it to go after their meal to take home for a late night snack. I hope everyone stocked up tonight because it’s going to be a while till you can get anymore of it till next spring!
Alright, I’ve got a feeling our last Lou’s meal should be ready to eat by now, so let’s go back and grab our seat at the Lou’s Island...
I was right, there’s the last Saturday night supper from Lou’s this season. I’ve never had a corn dog here, so I decided to try one this evening along with an order of onion rings and a fresh mug of the frosty homemade Lou’s Root Beer. It was a delicious and satisfying summer dinner!
But now it’s all over and the root beer mug is empty, time to say goodbye to Lou’s until next spring!
Here’s the entire Lou’s crew on duty flashing us an “L” for Lou’s! We’ll see you all next year and we’ll see all of you tomorrow!

Happy Birthday Joe! (The Start of the MBIP September Birthday Greetings and Salutations!)
We celebrated Joe’s birthday last Thursday at Agatucci’s, but today is not only his actual birthday, it’s also the start of several September birthdays that MBIP guest stars and friends are celebrating that will end up in one big giganzo birthday post on September 19th, so stay tuned for that! But now it all starts with Joe’s birthday that conveniently happens on Labor Day of this year, so we can all have the day off and wish Joe a happy birthday as we try not to think about going back to work tomorrow! Happy birthday, Joe!
