I always have a blast when I get invited to be a guest and do a segment on Good Day Central Illinois. If you haven’t seen this show, it’s really a great program, it’s like a local Today Show and the three hosts, Lindsey Mills, Clay Gordon and Lauren Rainson are really top-notch broadcasters and I have a feeling they’ll be gone to a bigger market soon, so enjoy them locally while you can! It’s really fun doing the show because it’s live TV and it’s really an adrenaline rush when the cameras go on and you know whatever you say is going out to TV sets and computers all over Central Illinois. One proud and shining moment is that in all of my appearances so far I’ve never cursed! I was on the show yesterday and asked Taylor Mickelberry, who’s the producer of the show if I could come a little early and take some pictures of what goes on behind the scenes of Good Day Central Illinois and he said I could, so it’s, lights, MBIP Camera...
WYZZ, WMBD and CI Proud! Here we are outside of the studio and it’s unbelievably bright and early out here! Two things that I really can’t stand, so let’s get inside! And one of these times I have to find out how they got that 3131 address!
Alright, we’re in and there’s Taylor and we’re hurrying down the hall as he’s got to get some work done. The behind the scenes moments are happening already, they don’t mess around over here!
Here’s a booth where Taylor, writes, compiles and stacks up segments for the days show. He explained what he does here, but it kind of went over my head, but I do get the sense of an ongoing deadline because this is live TV and there’s the clock over his computer screen. In the final shot Taylor demonstrates that even a computer screen needs to talk to the hand now and again!
This is Megan who’s the the producer of WMBD This Morning which airs on WMBD (CBS) from 5-7AM. She also does duty on GDCI too and Taylor says he refers to her as his co-producer a lot.
We made a stop here at the GDCI studios where everyone is getting ready to do different segments. There’s LIndsey at the interview section of the studio, Clay is over where the news is broadcast and Lauren is in front of her green screen which is the weather map you see on TV. In the final photo all three are together and it’s time for Taylor to keep running around. I will say that this guy logs some miles walking around the studio! He’s always on the move!
While Taylor got a few more things done, he let me hang out here in the control room where the shows are directed and put together for what you see at home. I didn’t get anyone’s name back here because they were all working, but it was cool to see this side of a television broadcast in operation. One cool thing you can see in the second photo from the bottom is Lauren in front of her green screen up in the top right and in the bottom left is how it looks on your TV screen! And in the final shot, someone brought in a tiny candy bar and everyone got really excited, I think I’ll bring a box of candy next time and see what happens! I predict sugar feeding frenzy in the control room!
Okay, back to the studio with Taylor and here’s some guests waiting to be interviewed. Lindsey’s on her iPad while Lauren says hi to the guests and I bother them all with the MBIP camera! One of the guests is a police officer, which made me a little nervous until I found out she wasn’t there to take me to the courthouse for a little test (inside joke alert!) Okay, as Clay starts the interview we’ll go back with Taylor to...
Yet another little booth that he sits in. Here he runs the teleprompter and checks other monitors. This guy never has a quiet moment in here! And speaking of moments, check out the bottom photo, it’s time for my segment!
Here’s Lindsey, Clay and Lauren in a shot I took before we had to sit down and get ready for our segment together. These three are real professionals and really make everyone feel at ease here in the studio.
Here’s a few shots I took from my seat in the studio. There’s Lindsey and Clay to my left, the desk with coffee cups, show notes and an iPad and next is my favorite photo of the day, which I call...
Lauren Rainson...EXTREME CLOSE-UP! Right after I shot this we went live and below are some screen shots I took from the interview off of my computer.
These segments always fly by and I was thrilled that I got to tell my Uncle Waltie/Sip Ahoy story! After that I gave them some souvenirs I got for all of them from New York including a New York snow globe for Lauren, New York note pads for Lindsey and Clay and an official New York inscribed light bulb for Taylor! If you want to watch the segment in full, just click right here!
And this concludes our broadcasting morning at Good Day Central Illinois! Sip Ahoy and thanks to Taylor, Lindsey, Clay and Lauren for another fun interview and morning at GDCI! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
