MBIP Pal, Contributing Writer and Wheelman, Scott Turley’s birthday has become an annual tradition here and yesterday was the day for celebration. This is the fourth year celebrating Scott’s birthday, the first two were spent at the zoo and you can check out those trips here and here. Then we decided that was too hot and they didn’t sell beer at the zoo, so last year we had the birthday celebration at The River Beach Pub in Chillicothe. That worked out so well last year, we thought that just like Steely Dan, we’d do it again and so here we go with the Fourth Annual Scott Turley Birthday Extravaganza!
Just like last year, this year’s birthday festivities start off with some presents for the birthday boy at MBIP World Headquarters. I got him some beer coasters, Mr. Rogers Sticky Notes and a “Peoria, It’s Not So Bad” t-shirt from my favorite Peoria gift shop: Relics! The last gift isn’t a blue clown nose, it’s a blue mystery ball I got and it’s a ball with mystery gifts inside of it! This gift intrigues me, so we decided we’d take it to the bar and Scott can open it there. And so it’s off we go!
Here we are headed towards the River Beach Pub and through the miracle of these here interwebs, here we are already! Let’s go inside and let this birthday party begin!
As you can see, the bar isn’t too densely populated since it’s still early on a Thursday afternoon and most people are at work, those poor sons of bitches! There’s a familiar face behind the bar, it’s Brenda who we met last year and Brenda is not only the pretty bartender on duty, she owns the joint! I went and took a shot from the end of the bar and there’s one of the wood paneled walls and ceiling and some of the neon signs decorating the place in here.
As I head back to the front of the bar, I seem to have misplaced Scott. Oh no, we can’t have a birthday party without him and I’m dying to see what’s inside of that blue mystery ball! Thankfully I went over to the dining room and spotted him at this table...
Here he is with some other fellows that have joined us for Scott’s birthday party, from left it’s, Scott, Don, Cally and the birthday boy himself! Soon after I took that photo, Jeff Putnam and Chip Joyce showed up and as you can see from the last photo, the party is well underway. So I did what I do at most parties when they get under full swing...
I leave to go and take some shots for the MBIP blog! Here’s the outside patio and the great view of the Illinois river from out here. What’s not so great out here is the temperature. It’s about 799 degrees out here with a heat and humidity index of over 3797 degrees Chelsea Handler. Time to get back inside!
As I made my way back to the birthday party, I heard someone call out my name and it was the three pretty ladies at this table. They recognized me from the blog and after I thanked them for reading it, they posed for the MBIP Camera. Clockwise from left” CeeCee, Jana and Kasey. Great to meet them!
Meanwhile, back at our table, Brenda’s serving up two of Scott’s favorite things, Rings and Wings! The food here is so delicious and Scott said the onion rings here are some of the best he’s ever sampled and he’s the official MBIP Onion Ring Aficionado, so you need to come and try these out when you’re in the neighborhood! They have several flavors of chicken wings and we got the sweet and spicy wings and they were juicy and...sweet and...spicy!
And now it’s the time of the day I’ve been anxiously waiting for, time to see what’s inside of the blue mystery ball! Hooray!
Well, as you can see, it’s quite a chore to unravel this thing to get to the center of it and see what kind of presents are inside. Luckily I don’t have to do it because it’s not my birthday, I can just stand and take pictures like the asshole I am!
Okay, after lots of unraveling, the ball has turned orange. Orange you glad I’m keeping you updated here? Sorry, I couldn’t help that!
And now for even more unraveling and as you can see from the bottom photo, Scott is starting to get a little unraveled himself!
Finally he hit the center of the ball and here’s the presents awaiting him inside: A dog tattoo sticker thingy, a happy face ring and a frog on an umbrella. I like the frog the best!
I stopped in the bathroom and it was a true birthday miracle in here as I took some of my favorite obligatory bathroom mirror shots of all time! I don’t know who Andy is, but thanks for the use of your mirror! I’ve been obsessively taking these obligatory bathroom mirror shots for over six years now (here's the post that features the first one, scroll down and you'll see it) and these are my favorite ones of all time! A great way to end another great Scott Turley birthday celebration! Today is Scott’s actual birthday, so Happy Birthday Scott and I’m already looking to giving you another mystery ball next year! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
