Okay, we're finally going to wrap up this second MBIP Chicken Wing Tour! As we've done at the end of the last two tours, MBIP pal, Contributing Writer and Wheelman, Scott Turley is going to cook us up something from his luxury mobile home in Morton, Illinois. He just got a new smoker, so he's going to smoke up some chicken wings and I'm bringing the side dishes. So it's off to Morton we go!
Here we are at The Turley Compound in Morton, Illinois and there’s Scott lounging on the front porch. He’s resting up now, but he’ll be busy cooking soon!
There’s Scott’s lovely wife, Moonbaby over there in her chair in the TV room, always great to see her!
I brought some snacks, cheese, two side dishes and dessert and we put those in the kitchen area and then...
Scott and Moonbaby surprised me with a birthday present! It’s a coffee table book about the ‘60’s called, “Hippie,” and it’s really a cool book! I’m going to put it on the MBIP Coffee Table in an honored spot! Thanks, so much, Scott and Moonbaby, that was really nice!
Ha! Perfect coaster for the Turley Compound! Now it’s chicken wing time...
Scott’s got a new smoker and he’s smoking one batch of wings with these peach wood chips. They look and smell...peachy!
And there’s another batch over here on the more traditional Weber grill, they look wonderful too! And note that these are whole wings, Scott doesn’t fuck around!
And here he is in action! He took the wings that had been smoking and transferred them to the grill to finish them off. Then he ladled his own blend of barbecue sauce to the ones that had been sizzling away on the Weber grill. I’m getting tired just watching him!
All done and they look so good!
Scott puts the final touches on them in the kitchen and it’s time to start this 14th and final week of this chicken wing tour!
Here’s our plates, I brought buffalo chicken pasta and cole slaw to go along with the chicken wings. Here’s Scott and Moonbaby digging in.
I however have begun the all-important cooling process which allows me to have another beer!
I tried the smoked wing first and it really had a nice smoky flavor and you can taste the hint of peach flavor from the wood chips! The barbecue wings were really good too, both were super juicy and grilled to perfection! Great job Scott!
The final bones and wings shot...I’m feeling a little sad over here!
But dessert perked up my spirits, these mini cupcakes were really good! I had three of them!
And another tradition at the end of these food tours has been stopping in at The Office On Main for a nightcap after dinner! Scott’s already secured a seat at the bar and let’s go join him...
And meet bartender Kevin! It turns out Kevin’s a musician and we have several musical friends in common including Shannon Moore Shepherd, Brandon Mooberry and Sarah Marie Dillard! Brandon and Sarah are going to be featured on tomorrow’s blog post, so stay tuned for that! It was great to meet Kevin!
There’s Kevin busy behind the bar...
And there’s a pool table and tables on the other side, opposite the bar. To check out more of The Office On Main, check out this full post we did on the place last August when we had dinner with Lisa Leathers in here.
And finally an obligatory mirror shot with Marilyn Monroe in the bathroom! I thought I was pointing at her, but I’m just pointing up in the sky and looking like kind of a jackass, but what are you going to do? Thanks to Scott and Moonbaby for some of the best wings of this latest tour, they were so delicious and thanks for the birthday present and having me over! It was a great time!
