One thing we’ve done on a yearly basis here at MBIP is visit PAWS, The Peoria County Animal Protection Services to visit with the people and animals housed there. And guess what? It’s that time of the year, so let’s make tracks to...
PAWS! Here we are for the third year in the row! And there’s a sign for the yearly Bark in the Park walk that’s happening this Sunday—all of the details for that are at the end of this post so keep on scrolling as we enter the office area here at PAWS.
Check out the Happy Tails bulletin board in the foyer here. This is a fun collection of people sending in letters and photos of pets they’ve adopted here. Nice!
Okay, here’s the office area and at first I didn’t recognize this pretty woman standing there, but soon I realized it’s Bridget, the Shelter Manager who gave us our first tour back in 2014. There’s something different about the way she looks, let’s go back and do a before and after picture here...
Oh, now I remember, she was pregnant! She told me that she had a baby boy and she certainly rebounded nicely from the pregnancy! Okay, time to start this year’s tour with Bridget!
The first stop is always down here to the Colony Cat room, but first...
Let’s take a moment for the memory of Whisper, the Resident Shelter Cat from 1992 to 1997. Okay, now we can continue on...
Bridget told me that one of the newer things happening here is that families can take a litter of cats home and help to raise them and then they come back here to be adopted. These two cats are left from a litter and getting ready to join the animal population here. But first they’re taking a well-deserved nap!
Here we go into one of my favorite rooms here, the Cat Colony Room! I always love looking at and taking pictures of all the cats roaming around freely in here. As you see a couple took to my shoe, while the last one ignored the MBIP camera in favor of his food bowl. Smart kitty!
There’s smaller animals to adopt here like hamsters, turtles and this bunny rabbit who’s reading the daily papers inside of his apartment. And check it out, there’s Becky, who was our tour guide last year! Great to see her and now let’s keep moving along!
Here’s the area where the dogs are kept, they’re all really cute and nice, but that last one looks familiar...I looked at her sheet and her name is Ginger, hmm...now where I have I seen this little pug before? Oh wait, I know...
I saw her on TV where she was the WMBD/CI Proud Pet of the Week! Here she is featured on Good Day Central Illinois hosts, Lindsey and Clay’s facecrack pages. Damn, I forgot to ask her for an autograph!
The tour continues as we head into another cat adoption room. There’s Donna, a PAWS volunteer with one of the kitty-cats in here and here’s some more of them relaxing in their cages and wondering who this guy is with the camera. Humans often wonder the same thing!
This room is for donations that come in to PAWS. If you can’t adopt an animal, you can still help by donating pet food and other pet-related goods or good old cash is also happily accepted here!
Yikes, this guy looks pretty unadoptable! Let’s just keep moving along!
Oh, I told you there’d be more information on the Bark in the Park walk and here it is. It happens this Sunday, October 9th at Festival Park on the Riverfront. The hours are from 11AM to 3PM and even if you don’t have a dog to walk, you should stop down to enjoy the festivities! Click here for more information and check out their facecrack page. Thanks to Bridget for a fun tour and to everyone at PAWS for all they do for our animal friends! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
