I usually have Thursday nights off from work and that’s the night I go to a bar for a few beers and maybe something to eat for the Friday MBIP post. Well this week I had Wednesday off and I had to work Thursday, so I went out Wednesday for today’s post and I have to tell you it really put me in a mixed up frame of mind, so I decided to go to two familiar places—Salt and the Navy-Marine Club in Peoria Heights. And so, off we go!
Here we are at Salt, the home of one of my favorite things in Peoria and beyond, their deviled eggs! If you haven’t had these you should drop whatever you’re doing, go there and try them out! Well, finish reading this post and then go try them out!
Okay, let’s go in. I have to confess I really feel off-balance tonight doing this on Wednesday and knowing I’m not going to post it till Friday, I really kind of need to be on a schedule or I kind of feel like I’m moving sideways. Oh well, what are you going to do?
There’s the dining room, the bright orange hues that bathe this room are a stark contrast to...
The cyan highlights of the bar. The dining room is nice, but I like the bar better!
And here’s Salt’s friendly bartender, Josh, serving up some sort of beer I can’t remember the name of, I should’ve written it down, but when you’re world is spinning sideways sometimes you forget stuff like that! But it was delicious and great to see Josh again!
These two pretty women were seated down at the end of the bar and they are Sharon and Penny. They’re both really nice and we had a fun conversation and lots of laughs. In the course of the conversation I learned that Penny and her husband own Senara Health and Healing Center and Senara Spa on Willow Knolls Drive. I see that spa every day because it’s right across the street from MBIP World Headquarters and I’ve always thought about doing a post from there because the place is huge and looks really cool! Sharon works there and she and Penny said they’d give me a tour whenever I wanted, so stay tuned for that! And is Penny a dead ringer for a certain actress or what?
There’s tables behind the bar and unique sculpture art on the wall behind the bar.
And suddenly...my dinner appears at the bar! I love it when that happens! I got the aforementioned deviled eggs and they never fail to disappoint! The eggs are lightly deep-fried with a crunchy panko crust, the yolk filling is seasoned with sriracha and they’re topped off with thin slices of smoky sugar-cured bacon. They are so good! Josh suggested I try a new item on the menu, something called Crab Tots. So I tried them and they were very tasty too! They’re a giant deep fried tater tot stuffed with a delicious crab filling and served with a creamy rich homemade dipping sauce.
Sharon and Penny were having dinner too and here they are being served by John. How grateful are they for their dinner?
This grateful! That’s got to be the best tip John got all night!
And just like dinner, look who suddenly has appeared at the bar, Amber and Joe! Great to see them as always and check out Amber’s new glasses! How pretty does she look in those! We had a beer and then it was off to...
The Navy-Marine Club! I love this place and if you follow MBIP, you know it’s one of my regular stops.
And I’m a full-fledged member of the club, check out my official card which gives me access to the inside so I don’t have to ring the bell and look like some sort of a wing-wang dipshit while doing so. So there!
Here’s a familiar face that I’m always happy to see in here, Mark the coolest bartender in town!
Amber and Joe have settled in over at this end of the bar...
And I see a couple of familiar faces across from us at the bar...
Bo and Julie from Lucky’s Modern Dive Bar! I think they spend more time in here than Lucky’s, but there’s nothing wrong with that! Great to see them again, as always!
Here’s the trio of beers on tap behind the bar.
One of the few rules in this club is that when Mark passes out on the bar it’s time to call it a night. So goodnight and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
