For the last two years, we’ve celebrated MBIP pal, Contributing Writer and Wheelman, Scott Turley’s birthday by having a day wandering around the zoo. The only problem with that is that there’s no beer at the zoo and that was always somewhat troubling to me. So this year Scott thought of another destination to celebrate his birthday at and...holy shitballs, what’s that...
My door is being knocked up! Someone alert the door abortion doctors STAT! I don’t want a bunch of little baby Jim Morrison’s running around in here!
Oh, false alarm, it’s just the birthday boy himself, Scott!
I got Scott these Scott cards from Relics, one of my favorite places to get birthday gifts from.
Here’s another present and no, it’s not a bag of weed!
It’s another card gift and you can’t see what it says, but keep on reading and you’ll see an MBIP miracle happen in just a little bit! And this card plays a major part in it!
And we’re off, birthday boy and MBIP Wheelman, Scott is steering us off to this year’s birthday destination.
And here we go, rolling down the highway...
Okay, here we are at The River Beach Pub, let’s park and watch a miracle unfold before our blinking eyeballs!
We stepped out of Scott’s car and saw this truck with this stupid fucking statement on it. How do you talk to a fucking truck? It really made me angry till we remembered Scott’s birthday present that I got at Relics...
“Stop Talking!” Ha ha ha! Sometimes the planets and all things skyward seem to align and everything seems just perfect. This was one of those moments! I love it!
Okay, here we are at The River Beach Pub & Eatery. I love the word, “eatery,” by the way. Just something I thought you should know.
Lone neon Guinness sign alert and silhouette obligatory mirror window shot! Hooray!
I went to take the standard, “let’s go inside and see what’s happening,” shot and the motherfucking MBIP camera fuzzed out on me. HATE the MBIP camera! Hate, hate, HATE it! Bah!
Wow, it’s really nice in here. Plenty of seats, let’s go get settled in and get the first of many birthday beers!
And here’s friendly bartender Brenda serving them up! Check out the draft beer, she serves it up with the coaster attached! Mad skills!
Here’s our view of the back of the bar.
The daily specials are listed on this colorful sign hanging on the wall behind the bar.
As you can see, there’s a large selection of beers on tap in here!
I love this glass display behind the bar and the Beer prescription bottle is classic!
Tables line the wall opposite the bar. The wooden walls and ceiling really make for a nice ambiance in here, it’s really a comfortable place to hang out at.
There’s more tables up here at the front windows. We’ll eventually end up in the far corner table, I’ll let you know when that eventuality comes to happen.
There’s a dining room in the back area of the pub.
They really have a nice beer garden out here overlooking the fabulously flooded Illinois river!
Meanwhile, back at the bar, Chip Joyce has shown up to wish Scott a happy birthday! Chip is tomorrow’s Contributing Writer, so stay tuned for that!
Okay, we’ve now moved to the far table as Amber has shown up making our party a quartet and more suited to sitting at a table than the bar. She’s looking so pretty as always and I was really happy she showed up to the party!
And speaking of pretty, here’s our gorgeous waitress, Jackie! She’s great and it was fun to talk to her and she suggested we try the nachos and told us they’re the best in town. Well, we’ll see about that!
First we tried the onion strings and these were so good! Scott suggested these and I knew they’d be good because he’s an onion ring aficionado!
Next up, we sampled the potato skins. They were really tasty and spicy, but is it me, or do they look kind of lonely on that plate? Okay, it’s probably just me, it always is!
And here’s the nachos that Jackie suggested. Wow, this is a such a colorful and tasty looking presentation! I’ve never seen nachos like this, so let’s just savor this moment in time...okay, now let’s dig in and try them!
Holy freaking moley! Jackie didn’t lie, these are so tasty and delicious. The chips are fried in-house and they’re topped with a tangy sauce, homemade beer cheese, spicy sausage and a corn salsa mix. Jackie was certainly right, best nachos ever!
Okay, Scott the birthday boy had his fill of beer and went home and Amber and I decided to have a nightcap (even though it's still daylight out) at the Navy-Marine Club where we’re both esteemed members in high standing...and sometimes high sitting as well!
Here’s the bar, Amber’s already settled in while I’m doing the MBIP camera thing.
Here’s our favorite Navy-Marine bartender, Mark serving up a couple of beers! Always love to see him and everyone else in here! There’s such a friendly clubhouse feel here and I’m really happy that Amber and I discovered this place a while ago!
And speaking of Amber and I, cheers from the both of us! Happy birthday to Scott and we’ll see you all tomorrow! And hey...let’s be careful out there!
