One of my all-time favorite MBIP posts happened about a year ago when I went to Goddess Boheme and got transformed into a full-blown goddess. It was so much fun! Owner Sherri and makeup artist Amy did a great job on the transformation and we had a blast. I found out I love dressing up as a woman and it’s something every guy should experience. So I called Sherri and we set up a date to do it again and tonight is that night! I’m so excited! Plus there’s a Goddess Party at New Amsterdam we’re going to afterwards! This is going to be a blast. Let’s go get Goddessized!
Here we are at Goddess Boheme, let’s go inside and let this Goddess Marty Party begin!
I see a familiar face over there behind the front counter at the store...
It’s the owner of Goddess Boheme, Sherri! Great to see her again! Before we begin the Goddess transformation, let’s take a look around the shop.
Here’s a shot from the back of the store. This place is loaded with amazing stuff, I can’t do it justice in photos, but I’ll try.
There’s lots of clothes and items in here you won’t find anywhere else in Peoria.
There’s more unique clothes on racks over here.
Check out the wall over here, Sherri painted that, she’s a great artist in addition to being a designer and a retail entrepreneur.
A pink elephant, deja vu, I see one of those every night before I pass out and stumble into dreamland.
Here’s table of custom-made jewelry, all for ten bucks. Such a deal!
The store is loaded with one of a kind items and fun tchotchkes. You should really check it out!
Okay, time for the Goddess transformation to begin. This is Tierney, who’s going to be doing the makeup.
Wow, she came prepared! Look at all the makeup. She’s going to need it to transform my ugly mug into a thing of Goddess beauty!
One thing I didn’t know is that they scheduled a photographer to take photos of this event. This is Raven, who’s a professional photographer and writer and I have to admit, the control freak inside of me kind of went nuts when I heard this news. I was kind of scared not to be using the MBIP camera which is always within my reach. But I let it go and let Raven take control of the photos. From here on in all the photography is done by Raven and the photos turned out spectacular! She’s a very talented photographer. You can look at more photos by Raven and find out how to book her for weddings, parties, private Goddess shoots and more by checking out her facecrack page right here and her website here.
The makeup session is about to begin and as you can see we are having plenty of laughs. It was a blast to hang out with these women and we had so much fun!
A little brush with blush and some blue has been applied to my eyes.
The only time I was uncomfortable was when I had to have my eyes closed while the makeup was being applied. I kept thinking that someone was going to stab me in the throat. I don’t know why I have thoughts like this and stopped questioning it years ago. No sense on dwelling on it!
A little smear as I open my left eye. My throat didn’t get stabbed. Hooray!
Tierney let me smell the makeup sponge and as you can see it brought me lots of joy, happiness and smiles. This is all just too much fun!
Okay, time to get a little serious as eyebrows are being fastened into place.
More eyelash work as I strike a somewhat pensive pose and get ready to let my inner Goddess loose.
The eyelashes are firmly in place as Tierney moves on to the eyebrows. I’ve always been proud of my eyebrows and can cock them in a John Belushi fashion, which I’ve always been proud of!
Heads up for more work. Things are starting to fall into place here. Every guy should do this, it gives you appreciation to what women have to go through when they get ready for a night out. It’s a lot of work!
As you can see, Tierney taped my head to bring my eyebrows up a little bit. Very cool!
Some work to the nose is being done here. I follow my nose, wherever it goes and it can be known to go to some pretty strange places!
Okay, now we’re moving along. The makeup is done and Tierney has put my wig on. It fits perfectly and I’m getting one hundred percent wiggy with it! This is getting exciting!
Here’s Sherri dressing me up in my Goddess outfit. All the items I’m wearing are for sale in the store and they are all beautiful! I kind of look like Rod Stewart in drag! Do ya think I’m sexy?
I’ve got a padded bra on and Tierney cracks up as I feel myself up. Hey, it’s been a while, okay?
The last step is lipstic and lip gloss and my Goddess transformation is complete. Time to go outside and get some Goddess shots from Raven.
I’m really happy with the look they gave me!
Here I am handing it to myself!
Give us a kiss! Okay, last time this ended at Goddess Boheme, but Sherri said that tonight was the night of a monthly Goddess party they have and that I was invited and so it’s off we go!
The dinner party is at New Amsterdam on the riverfront, one of my favorite restaurants in town!
As we got there we ran into my friends Terry and Jennifer Towery. It was hilarious, I made eye contact with Terry and at first he had no idea who I was! I love this!
And here’s some more friends, Danielle and Brent and Katherine in the foreground who’s a regular at the Goddess parties. We were going to eat out here, but it was hot and I was sweating like a pig and paranoid that my makeup was going to run, so we got a table inside. A girl has to keep her cool after all!
And here we are at the table. That’s Todd, the owner of New Amsterdam next to me. I called him over and he had no idea who I was and it was hilarious. He was looking at me so confused like he knew who I was but couldn’t quite place it...
And then he realized it and he really cracked up. This was probably the highlight of the night and it was a huge laugh! I live for shit like this and was so grateful for this moment. This night was just a total Goddess blast!
Danielle and Brent had to take off, so I gave her a girlie kiss goodbye!
Here’s a shot of the table after Danielle and Brent left and Eric, Ann and Donna have joined the Goddess party.
Raven took a formal shot of the table, clockwise from left: Katherine, Terry, Jennifer, Donna, Erica, Marti (my Goddess name is Mari with an “I”), Ann and Sherri. This was such a fun night and the food and drinks were great at New Amsterdam as always! Thanks to everyone for coming out being a part of this fun party!
At the start of this week I announced a new page where you can buy MBIP a beer and help keep this blog alive by helping out with a donation for the expenses of keeping this thing afloat. This week's beers were bought by the following friends and MBIP readers:
• Katrink who said: “If you were still in NYC I'd have to send you more but I'm sure $20 goes pretty far in Peoria! SKOAL!”
• Dick Stolley, who didn’t leave a message, but has been a great friend since my New York City days when he used to take me out to lunch at the Rainbow Room. Thanks for the donation and friendship, Dick!
• Gregory Cannon who said he’s part of the "Bring back the Windjammer Pub" Foundation. Ha ha ha! I’ll join that foundation for sure, I have many fond memories of The Windjammer!
• RaginRR, who didn’t leave a note, but is one of my favorite commenters and always leaves a great nightly quote here. RaginRR has been a big supporter of my blogs and a good friend and I thank him for that!
If you’d like to buy a beer for MBIP, all the information is on this page. If you want me to post a link for your business, website, band, etc., I’ll happily do so, just include the information and it will be up in next Friday’s bar post!
Here’s a portrait shot of Marti that Raven spent some extra time on and she made me look beautiful, which is a pretty amazing miracle! Make sure you check out her work here and here. Thanks to everyone who came out for this, it was so much fun! And extra special thanks to Sherri, Raven and Tierney for turning Marty into Goddess Marti! Let’s do this again next year and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
