We've gone to two productions that MBIP pal and Contributor, Chip Joyce has directed: The Graduate at Corn Stock Theatre and Young Frankenstein at The Eastlight Theatre. Well, today we make it a trifecta as we attend Cabaret at Peoria Players Theatre. Chip gave us a backstage tour with this blog post from September of 2013 and now we can take a look at the place from my perspective. Let's go and see if life really is a Cabaret, old chum!
Here we are at Peoria Players Theatre and there's Chip's name front and center.
A somewhat obligatory front door mirror shot as we prepare to go inside.
True to form, I'm about an hour early for the show, but there's a decent reason this time...
Chip said he'd give us a little pre-show tour and here he is. Let's let the tour begin!
The curtains have parted and let's see what's on this side of things...
Here's the front stage, which serves as a backdrop for the whole play and it's based in the Kit Kat Klub in Berlin, Germany in 1931. The play revolves around Cabaret artist, Sally Bowles and her relationship with American writer, Cliff Bradshaw.
This play features something new for Peoria Players Theatre, VIP seats! For 25 dollars you can get a table up front and a bottle of wine for the table which nicely compliments the mood of Cabaret. There's a number to call for VIP seating at the end of this blog post and I highly recommend it.
Chip showed me around backstage at the theatre and i love the walls and memorabilia back here.
Lots of memories are plastered on the walls back here...
I love looking at stuff like this, very cool!
This is a collection of costumes that Chip has accumulated from past productions.
Here's some props from the production including a copy of Mein Kampf.
Jenny in underwear alert! Chip's pretty wife, Jenny is in the cast and speaking of the cast...
Here's a good portion of them, from left: Andy (playing Victor), Jenny (Texas), Nyk (Bobby), Aaron (Master of Ceremonies), Barry (Herman), Laura (Kit Kat orchestra leader), and Bridget (Kit Kat orchestra sax player).
Spellcheck alert!
Meanwhile, back in the foyer a crowd is starting to show up.
There's pictures of the production out here...
And here's some of those pictures.
Here we are with a vantage point from my VIP seat and seats are quickly filling up. Looks like word has gotten out around town about Cabaret.
Before the play the actors come out and warm up onstage which is a nice piece of theatre unto itself.
This is just about the last of the pictures as the play is about to start...
And as you can see, it's a full house. I won't give away too much, but this is a really great production with first class acting, singing and musical numbers. Chip's done it again and you shouldn't miss this. Ticket information is below.
