We’re up to week number four in our second twelve week tour of sampling chicken wings in and around Peoria. One place that has a large selection of flavors of wings is T-N-T’s on Prospect. We went there on our tenderloin tour and I haven’t been back since. I’ve never had the chicken wings there, so that’s going to be today’s winged destination. Normally at this point I’d say, “To the MBIP Mobile,” but that’s not the case today because...
Adam Duvall, who set up our lunch a few weeks ago at the PJ Star is behind the wheel today and he’s going to join us on today’s chicken wing adventure! Great to see him and glad to have him along on today's winged journey!
It’s nice and overcast outside, just the way I like it! That rotten sun orb is well hidden behind the clouds and it can stay there forever as far as I’m concerned!
Here we are at today’s wing destination, T-N-T’s Sports Bar & Grill, let’s go inside and get out of this horrific daylight and pretend like it’s night time.
The parking lot was jammed, but the bar area isn’t too crowded, where is everybody?
They’re over here in the dining room. Wow, they really pack them in here on Sunday afternoon!
This smiling and festive woman was working in the dining room and was nice enough to pose for the MBIP camera and like an idiot I forgot to write her name down. For some reason I think it’s Mary, but if someone knows for sure, let me know and I’ll update this! ****UPDATE: Her name is Kat! Thanks to Kelsi over at facecrack for supplying the name!
Adam and I decided take seats at the bar over here.
And the two pretty bartenders on duty, Paula and Katie teamed up to serve me the first beer of the day! That’s a beautiful thing!
Here’s a couple of familiar faces from the past, Troy and Javier. Troy’s the owner of T-N-T’s and Javier has been a cook here for six years. Both of them were on duty when we tried every tenderloin on the menu, click here to check that out! Hard to believe that was over two years ago! They have a dozen different flavors of chicken wings and I asked Troy to pick four of them for Adam and I to sample. Keep on scrolling to see what he picked for us!
As you can see, they have a lot of beers on tap over here, there’s fourteen total to choose from.
On Sunday’s they have a Bloody Mary bar up in the front here with sauces, spices and other goodies to customize and jazz up your drink.
Meanwhile, back at the bar, it’s chicken wing time!
Here’s the different flavors that Troy suggested we try, clockwise from the top left: Mango Habanero, Baked Hot, Sriacha Sweet & Spicy and Sweet Fire.
I took one of each flavor and put them on my plate to begin the ever-important cooling process...
Which allows me to have another beer. Cheers!
Adam didn’t wait for his to cool and here he is digging in to the quartet of wing flavors.
Both Adam and I really liked all of the wings, but we both agreed that the baked hot wings were the best. I think these are the first baked wings we’ve had on both of the wing tours and they really have a spicy and unique flavor. Really tasty!
The weekly bones and napkin shot! Normally this would be the end of the post, but not today. T-N-T’s has a “Wall of Flame” wing challenge on the menu. Supposedly these wings are so hot, very few have ever finished the entire order. Well, I had to see if I could finish an order of these nuclear wings.
Adam and I were invited back into the kitchen to see Javier prepare these suicidal wings!
Here he is saucing up the wings and putting the order together. I got a whiff of that sauce and it smells pretty lethal! I may have made a mistake here, but there’s no turning back now!
Those look pretty scary and you should smell them, they have an odor of a three alarm fire blazing completely out of control. Yikes!
As scary as they look and smell, I was pretty confident that I could finish them, there’s just eight wings total, but they’re pretty big and plump.
These three guys were sitting next to me at the bar and all three have tried the “Wall of Flame” challenge and all three failed. This didn’t boost my confidence, but here we go!
I started out strong and took Javier’s advice of not stopping at all once you take your first bite. After four wings my nose was running like an out of control faucet and tears were streaming down my face. I took a moment to wipe off my face and I swear it felt like a shovel had smacked me in the head. Sadly, I didn’t finish the order and called it quits on this nuclear challenge!
I’ve eaten a lot of spicy things in my day, but those were the hottest things I’ve ever had in my entire life. And the fire in my mouth didn’t go out until about 45 minutes after I was done.
Three and a half wings remained, so at least I got more than halfway through the challenge.
There’s my cheering gallery, all with, “I told you so” looks on their faces!
And that’s a perfect piece of art to end this fiery post with! Oh and here’s a little too much information, as badly as they burned while eating them, it was equally as bad on the other end the next morning, if you know what I mean and I know you do! Ouch!
Chicken Wing Rating
4 Wings Guitar Picks (For the Baked Hot Flavor) - Both Adam and I agreed the Baked Hot wings were really special. They were spicy, tasty and tangy, but not saucy at all, I highly recommend them!
