Time to continue our tour of eating Main Street one restaurant at a time. Today we’re moving backwards and forwards on Main Street. For those of you keeping score, our last stop on on this tour was Broken Tree Coffee. Normally we’d move up the street to the next eatery on Main Street, but a new restaurant has opened up since we went to Broken Tree and I want to check it out. It’s a place called Tasty’s Chicago Grill and it’s moved into the spot that Mr. G’s occupied for years. I was sad when Mr. G’s closed, but I’m glad to see a locally owned place move in to the spot. And I thought we’d also move forward on this post, so after lunch at Tasty’s Chicago Grill, we’ll move up Main Street for an ice cream dessert at Las Delicias! That sounds like a plan, Stan! To the MBIP Mobile!
Here we go on that familiar ride up the Main Street hill to...
Tasty’s Chicago Grill! This place recently opened up and I’m anxious to see how the food is here.
I like the fact that they’ve kept a memory of Mr. G’s alive here in front of the front door! Nice to keep a little history alive on Main Street! Okay, let’s go in and see what they’ve done with this place.
They’ve pretty much kept it the same in here as it was when it was Mr. G’s, which is fine with me. If it ain’t broke, no need to fix it!
I’m really happy they kept the dancing hot dogs and cheeseburger! This makes my day! Yes, I’m easily pleased sometimes!
You can get your very own Tasty’s t-shirt, which is hanging on display underneath the lights up there.
This is David, who’s one of the owner’s of Tasty’s. He said business has been good and things are going great so far, that’s good to hear!
David invited me back to the kitchen where the Italian Beef is slow-cooking. Wow, that looks delicious! I know what I’m having for lunch!
I’m supposed to be meeting a friend here for lunch and I’ve picked out this table, now all we need is my friend to show up and take over that empty chair.
And poof, there she is, my friend Susie has just appeared looking pretty as ever! Great to see her and now with our special guest star in place, we can let the Main Street lunching begin!
The menus hang overhead and some of the Chicago fare on the bill includes: Chicago styled hot dogs, Italian Beef, Gyros, Italian Sausage and cheeseburgers. They have daily specials here, Monday through Friday.
You order over there, so Susie and I stepped up to the plate to place our order.
Jasmin was behind the cash register looking gorgeous! She took our order and said when it was ready she’d deliver the food to us. Nice!
After we ordered we ran into these three and it turns out that Kristy, on the left is a faithful MBIP reader! They are all from The Dream Center, from left: Kristy, Robbie and Chris. They had been at the Art Garage before they stopped in here. Great to meet all of them!
True to her word, here’s Jasmin with our lunch order! I love her!
Susie got the Chicago dog and fries and I got the Italian Beef with onion rings. I got the sandwich dipped and with cheese and peppers. The food looks and smells amazing! Time to dig in!
Susie took a shot of me chowing down on the sandwich. It’s so good! The beef is savory, smoky and succulent and the dipped roll is the icing on the cake! A great sandwich cooked in true Chicago style! Susie said the Chicago Dog was tasty and a real treat too! You should definitely check out this new taste on Main Street! Okay, now it’s time for dessert!
We drove the short distance up Main Street to the Las Delicias Ice Cream Shop. I’ve heard great things about this place and I’m anxious to try it out, so let’s head inside!
It’s nice and colorful in here!
Check this out, this gentleman’s name is Ruben and I’m not sure what that is he’s holding, but it sure looks wonderful!
Behind the counter are Mary, who’s the owner of Las Delicias and Gabi who’s her daughter-in-law. They’re both very friendly and it’s nice to meet them! They told me they’ve been in business here for two years now! That’s great, love to see family businesses thrive in Peoria!
All the ice cream and different flavored popsicles are made fresh on the premises. Everything looks so good!
And they now have food on the weekends from 10am to 3pm. You can mix up the savory and sweet in here!
Susie got a coffee flavored ice cream cone...
And I got the Oreo flavor. The ice cream here is so smoothy-rich and tasty!
There’s plenty of places to sit in here and Susie and I decided to sit up front where you can watch the world go by on Main Street!
This was a great lunch and dessert on Main Street! Thanks to Susie for joining me and to the fine folks at Tasty’s Chicago Grill and Las Delicias for the wonderful food and friendly hospitality! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
