I had a lot of fun last night and some really tasty food at the Heart of Illinois BBQ & Bluegrass Festival at Expo Gardens. There will be a full-blown post on it tomorrow, but here’s a few photos for a teaser of tomorrow’s post.
Today’s the last day of the three day festival and there’s BBQ, beer and music from 10AM to 6PM tonight. The weather is perfect and this is probably the last festival of the summer, so you should definitely go and check it out. All the details are right here: Heart of Illinois BBQ & Bluegrass Festival.
I thought in honor of the fesitval I’d post BBQ related songs today and I found a top ten BBQ list of songs at the legendary Stubb’s BBQ website. I picked six songs from that list and here they are, along with some words from the people at Stubb’s as to why the song made the list. Enjoy!
Bar-B-Q by ZZ Top
Billy Gibbons recently stopped by our office and we talked sauce and Stubb. BFG is one cool dude.
Summertime by Janis Joplin
Stubb regularly sang this song when jamming with the likes of Ely, Willie, and the rest of the music gang that descended on Lubbuck. I’m picking Janis’ version because of her ties to Austin and her great voice.
Texas is a State of Mind by Ray Wylie Hubbard
Maybe this is why our sauces, marinades and rubs sell so well outside of Texas.
Got My Mojo Working by Muddy Waters
Another easy choice since Stubb and Muddy were friends and Stubb loved the blues.
Cold Shot by Stevie Ray Vaughan
SRV was a big fan of Stubb’s—the man, the music venue and the BBQ.
Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash
Another friend of Stubb. Cash isn’t singing about smoking over a pit but the fire, it burns, burns, burns.
