The last time I went to Firehouse Pizza Pub in East Peoria, I got a cheeseburger pizza for an edition of Saturday Night Cheeseburger back in November of 2013. I thought we’d go back and try something a little more traditional this time for the MBIP Year of Pizza tour. And so it’s off we go for the 31st pizza pie of this cheesy tour!
Baboom! We is here! So how easy this works? The restaurant is on the left...
But we're going over here to the pub because it's open late and there's more neon in the window over here. So there!
It's nice and dark in here, let's snag a seat at the bar and get settled in for the evening.
Here's Brandi who's the pretty bartender on duty serving up the first beer of the evening. Brandi's the manager of the pub and we met her on our last visit here. She took the pizza order and so let's take a look around in here while it's being prepared.
Check it out, this is definitely the place to start your weekend, there's free pizza here every Friday from 4pm to 6pm. What a sweet deal!
I love the lit up bottles on display behind the bar.
I noted last time that these Day of the Dead tequila bottles look like something out of a Tim Burton production. Very cool bottles!
They have a good selection of beers on tap, here's six imported and craft beer flavors...
And here's five domestic choices over here.
Tables line the wall opposite the bar and there's some people playing darts down there, let's go say hi to them.
Meet Eddie, Kara and Nick. After saying hello, Nick told me that we've met once at the Judge's Chamber and I took his and Kara's photo there, check it out by scrolling down this post. Good to see both of them again!
Uh oh, they're starting to turn on each other, I think we should just leave them to their own devices...
And stare at a jar of olives for a while. Aaahh...so soothing!
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
The appetizer is served! I got an order of Mango Habanero flavored wings at Brandi's suggestion. They look great, let's dive in and try them!
The wings were so good! The combination of mango and habanero in the sauce is very tasty. Equal parts heat and sweet and the chicken wings are really plump and juicy. Great appetizer!
The wings have been reduced to a pile of bones which can only lead to a Star Trek flashback.
Once again I've forgotten to bring one of Ragin RR's giant bottle of Tabasco sauces, but it's okay as The Firehouse Pub has a trio of sauces including, Sriracha, Tabasco and of course, the ever-present Frank's Hot Sauce.
Okay, here we go! Co-Owner of the Firehouse Pub, Andy presents this week's pie and it's a special one...
Brandi said we could split the pizza and have two toppings on one pie! This is a first for this pizza tour. I got the Meat Lovers on one side and the Four Cheese on the other. Kind of a Yin and Yang style of pie.
Two pieces are put on a plate for the ever important cooling process as I have another beer and ponder that fork in the road.
The Meat Lovers is very tasty and a Carnivore's delight featuring pepperoni, bacon, ground beef and thick sliced Canadian bacon.
As much as I enjoyed the Meat Lovers side of the pie, I have to confess I like the Four Cheese half a little better. I'm a sucker for a good cheese pizza and this is a very good one. There's four cheeses involved here including: aged provolone, parmesan, cheddar and their in-house blend of mozzarella. They have a sweet sauce (regular sauce is available as well) that really blends well with the creamy cheese and the thin crust. Great pizza!
Okay it's a day later, we're a dollar shorter and there's still two bottles of Baba beer in the craft corner of the MBIP fridge. Time for the weekly cold pizza challenge...
It's delicious! We'll see you all tomorrow!
Pizza Rating
Three and a half Chef Boy Arr Dees. Best Yin and Yang pie so far on the MBIP Tour! Okay, it's the only Yin and Yang pie of the tour, but it sure was tasty!
