It’s another day where posts collide! It’s been a number of weeks since we’ve done a Peoria Horbrau World Beer Tour run and I’m overdue to have an MBIP Contributor's Lunch, so I thought I’d combine them in today’s post. So there!
Here we are at Peoria Hofbrau, an iconic and colorful Peoria restaurant.
Let's go and see what's happening inside.
There's a full bar, but we're going to be sitting at a table, so it doesn't matter, but we still need to squeeze in to get the first beer of the day...
We squeezed in and here's Vanessa dutifully serving the first beer of the day, a bottle of Warsteiner. The World Beer Tour has begun for this week!
Now it's time to find a table and settle in with the MBIP Contributing Writers who showed up for this lunch.
Here's the crew for this month's lunch, from left: Chip Joyce, Yours Fooly and Scott Turley. Rumor has it that Brandon Hovey made it as far as the parking lot and Grandpa Foster was home-schooling the grandfish.
Chip brought a present of a jar of German mustard from...
His fiancee, Jenny, pictured here on his phone. It's imported mustard from Galena, thanks Jenny!
Before you know it, lunch is served! I got the prime rib sandwich with au jus...
Scott got the chili dogs...
And Chip nearly copy-catted me by ordering the prime rib sandwich, but he got an order of German potato salad and that redeemed him of the aforementioned copy-cat status.
I thought quickly and decided to put Jenny's Galena German mustard into action right away...
And here it is slathered on my prime rib sandwich. Lunch was delicious as always!
After the tasty lunch, Chip had to get back to work, but Scott and I had nowhere to go, so we had a beer for dessert.
I'm up to beer number four for this week's edition of the World Beer Tour and I'm having a Banana Bread Beer and it's really good. I was leery about it when Vanessa brought it, but it was surprisingly tasty. And check it out, it comes with its own specialized glass, pretty cool!
Since Chip left, Scott and I decided to belly up to the bar, it's crowded up there, but we spied to seats over at the end, so we snagged them...
And said hi to Andy who was doing duty behind the bar. The Hofbrau was closed a few weeks earlier for their summer vacation and Andy said he had a nice vacation that involved a couple of beer tours and some nice dinners. Glad he had a nice vacation and great to see him again!
There's Andy and Vanessa from my vantage point on the other side of the bar. I'm up to beer number five for those of you keeping score at home!
Of course I have to get a shot of Spuds standing attention on the other side of the bar.
Here's this week's beer list on the brick wall in the center behind the bar.
The taps are always changing here, here's five of them over here...
And here's four more, I like the skeleton tap, it makes me think of the Grateful Dead and that makes me wonder where Bob Whitaker, the King of the Hofbrau World Beer Tours is today?
One name says it all!
After i took this young fellow's photo I learned that...
He's Vanessa's son, Boogie! Somebody cue up, "Mother and Child Reunion!"
Andy's shift is done and he's having a beer with the gang of regulars down here at the corner of the bar. Cheers!
As the dayshift crew goes home, the evening crew arrives, here's Alex and Henrietta behind the bar ready to pour some whiskey!
Finally he arrives, the King of the Hofbrau World Beer Tours: Bob Whitaker! Bob's currently on his 119th Beer Tour! No one's ever going to catch that record!
In addition to being the number one World Beer Touring Guy, Bob's also a painter and here's a Grateful Dead inspired piece of art he's working on that's going to be installed at Kenny's Westside Pub when he's done. Can't wait to see it hanging in there and I'll put up a post when it's put up in there.
Alex pours the final beer of the afternoon, a Nitro and what follows is...
An obligatory bathroom mirror shot proving that you can't buy beer, you can only rent it. And since Jaws the Cabbie couldn't make the lunch I brought him along via my Jaws the Cabbie t-shirt! Thanks, as always, to everybody at The Peoria Hofbrau for great food and beer and wonderful hospitality, we'll see you all tomorrow...and hey, let's be careful out there!
