I’ve been meaning to go back to Joe’s Sports Grille, the last time we went I kind of bashed them for putting beans on their chili dogs...okay, I went kind of batshit crazy over that (but seriously, beans do NOT belong on a chili dog, they really don’t belong in chili either, but don’t get me started on that!) and I’ve wanted to make up for that ever since. It’s a nice bar and close to the MBIP Headquarters and I recently found out that they serve homemade pizza! We’re doing a road trip next week, so I thought it would be nice to stay close to home this week. And so it’s off to Joe’s we go! Let’s just hope they don’t put beans on their pizza!
Here we are at Joe’s Sprots Grille. Note the MBIP Mobile sitting front and center!
There’s outside seating here, but I prefer inside away from that rotten sunshine! Also double exclamation point alert on that Dogfish sign. Hate the double exclamation point!
Let’s go in and start this week’s pizza party.
This bar is so huge, it’s like an airplane hangar in here. There’s lots of circular tables here in the front dining area.
And back here, far away from that nasty-ass sunshine is the bar. Plenty of seats too since it’s early on a Sunday afternoon, most people are home nursing their Saturday night hangovers, but not me, there’s pizza to be eaten...
And beer to be drank! And as if on cue, pretty bartender Stephanie shows up with an ice cold bottle of Budweiser. Stephanie said she’s familiar with the MBIP blog because her friend, Kelli was featured on here when we went to Kelli’s Self Centered Hair Studio for our post on, “This Used To Be...Hunt’s." I think we all now what needs to be cued up right now!
This is my view of the back of the bar, love the lit up bottles display!
Here’s a chalk board sign celebrating their draft beers in here, which has to lead to...
A shot of the drafts. Note the Wrigley Field sign and bobble heads, very nice.
There’s booths on both sides of the front room with lots of sports memorabilia on the walls.
Here’s a framed Jim Thome jersey...
With an autograph from Thome below it on the wall, “To Joe’s the best in P-Town.”
There’s more autographs on this wall that features a picture of a Harlem Globetrotter...
This one’s from Curly “Boo” Johnson, who sadly chose the double exclamation point for his autograph. Hate the double exclamation point!
More sports mementos and signs over here on this wall, including a vintage Bradley sign and pennant.
I call this, Joe’s “Las Vegas Corner” with the lights and arrows pointing to their gaming machines.
Sports banners hang up high in the industrial ceiling in here.
There’s a mural of Peoria painted on this wall over here above several TV’s.
Meanwhile, back at the bar, it appears it’s just about pizza time! Note the two hot sauces that are becoming staples on this tour: Frank’s Red Hot and Sriracha.
Here we go, this week’s pizza served up by Stephanie!
They have two different styles in here, hand tossed and thin crust and Stephanie said she likes the thin crust better, so that’s what I ordered and it looks great!
I’ve placed these three pieces on the cooling plate. I got extra cheese, sausage and onion, so far it smells great, can’t wait to try it out!
It’s really good pizza! The crust is cracker thin and the sauce has a nice bold flavor to it. The sausage is a stand-out too, spicy and really tasty. And best of all, there’s no beans on it!
I made it halfway through and I’m stuffed! Even though it’s thin crust, the toppings are plentiful and it’s really filling.
Okay, time for the next day cold pizza test. Note the one lonely bottle of Red Stripe has been stripped from it’s housing. Time to break down and get another non-Budweiser six pack for this corner of the fridge. I’ll work on that next week.
It’s delicious! And it’s beanless! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
Pizza Rating
Three Chef Boy Ardees—If you like thin crust pizza, you’ll love it at Joe’s, the sauce is zippy and the toppings are fresh and plentiful!
