Hi Paul! And now on to the Wings portion of this post.
Way back on April 2, I was going to meet MBIP pals, Matt Buedel and Terry Towery at a Mexican restaurant on Prospect Road I had heard good things about. When we got there it was closed, but Matt, the owner of the building was there and told us that it was going to be reopening soon as a restaurant specializing in chicken wings and other variations of southern cooking. Well, it’s hard to believe that over four months has gone by since then. I was thinking about how time flies, that made me think of wings and well, the next thing you know we’re on our way over to check it out. Vroom, vroom!
Drive-by shot of Rumberger's Wings, let's hope it's open this time! I'm starvin' like you know who over here!
The sign's up, that's a good, well...sign. Oof.
The last time we were here they were in the midst of remodeling, let's go in and see how it looks now.
Wow, they've done a great job, it looks great! Let's go up to the bar up there and see what's going on in here.
Once I got up there I met the owner of this winged establishment, Jason and his son, Taj. Jason said that all the recipes and sauces here are made and crafted by him, but they were all inspired by his father. He told me he'd fix us up with a couple of sample platters so we could try a variety of wings and side items. Very nice!
Check out the dining room over there. Really nice and I love the hardwood floor and colorful walls. Let's go see what those two gentlemen think of the food in here...
Two thumbs up from Clay and Darrin! They both agreed that the wings here are some of the best in town. Thanks, guys!
Clay said we can have a little behind the scenes look in the kitchen back here, let's go take a sneaky peeky.
Lots of activity back here, let's see who these guys are...
From left: Michael, J.R. and Taj, who we met already. These fellows are responsible for the magic that comes out of this kitchen.
Sauces and spice rubs are lined up on this shelf like pretty maids all in a row.
Gentlemen, start your fryers!
"Cookin' In The Kitchen of Love." A little Ringo moment to go with this Paul McCartney-themed post.
The wings are cooked, let's go back outside and let these guys sauce them up and put the final touches on them. We can't take photos of all their secrets after all!
I decided to eat at the bar as opposed to the dining room, I feel more at home at the bar, even though there's no beer in here...sob!
Anthony was getting an order to go, this was his first time here and he said he was anxious to try out the wings. That makes two of us!
Here's Matt who we met the first time we came here. Matt owns the strip of buildings here and he and his cute daughter, Madeline are meeting us to try out the food here.
Speaking of food, here it comes! This is a sampler platter of some of the sides. On this platter are: Broccoli Bites, Corn Bites and Breaded Okra. They look and smell fantastic!
They were all really tasty, but my favorite are the Broccoli Bites. They have a crispy crust and inside there's melted cheese swimming around the tender broccoli. The crunch of the crust and the creamy cheese and broccoli have a nice combination of textures and there's both a sweet and savory taste coming through. I could eat a whole basket of these and I might on my next visit.
Alright, here's the star of the show, a basket of Rumberger's wings! They cooked us up a combination of flavors including: Sweet & Tangy, Honey Gold, Jerk, Garlic Parmesan, Teriyaki, Lemon Pepper and Spicy BBQ. Let's dive in, wing a ding ding!
Okay, these are some of the best wings I've ever had! The different sauces are all really tasty and good and the wings are cooked perfectly, crisp on the outside and plump and juicy on the inside. And there's other items on the menu too including, catfish, shrimp, a slawdog and something I want to try next time, chicken gizzards. I love chicken gizzards and you don't find them around here at too many places.
Madelin dipped hers in Ranch dressing and as you can see, she's loving the wings here!
Star Trek flashback alert! These were wonderful wings and sides! Thanks to Jason, Taj, Michael and J.R. for a great meal and hospitality, we will be back!
After that fantastic meal, Matt wanted to show us the space next door which is currently available for rent.
Very nice in here and lots of space to work with. Matt said it was formerly a day spa.
There's a number of rooms in here...
Check out the Cheap Trick floor in this room, very cool!
If you're interested in this space, call Matt! You'll not only be getting a great space, you'll be helping with Madeline's college funds and you're right next door to a fantastic place to have lunch and dinner! We'll see you all tomorrow!
