I have the night off from work, so I think I’ll go out earlier than usual for my Friday bar post and since I’ll be having more than two beers, I’m taking a cab to the Red Barn. And, The Red Barn is the latest addition to the MBIP Bucket List, so we’ll be dropping off a MBIP Bucket for them to decorate! Plus, there’s going to be some special guest stars appearing on this post. So let’s get over to the Red Barn already...sheesh!
Here we are, a lovely summer night in front of the Red Barn!
A neon Budweiser gitbox glows in the front window.
Oh, oh...a bulletin board! This can only lead to one thing...
The MBIP - ASDC business card throwdown! Oh oh, ASDC, three for MBIP and only one for you! Here’s a little link of advice for you! You know, I’m going there next week to get a couple of cavities filled...maybe I should’ve let them win this one!
Full bar tonight, but check out that corner seat, empty and poised to be snagged, so snag it we shall!
Cherry is tonight’s pretty and friendly bartender. Cherry recently started here at The Red Barn and after I gave her my MBIP card she told me she’s the daughter of someone pretty special, not only here at MBIP, but in another iconic Peoria landmark. Who is her father? None other than Bob Whitaker who we met on our first World Tour of Peoria Hofbrau. You can see that post here, but for those of you not in the loop, Bob has completed the Peoria Hofbrau World Tour an unbelievable 116 times and has a wall devoted to these tours at Peoria Hofbrau. And now we get to not only meet Cherry, but I think most of you know that this has to be played right now!
Here’s a cell phone photo of Cherry and Bob, all together now...awwww!
Here I am rockin’ my Moxie P-Town t-shirt. I told you Mollee looked better in it than I would!
Just when I thought that we had reached the daily quota with the “It’s a Small World,” song, who do I discover that this gentlemen is? None other than Bart Grawey, who was the inspiration behind MBIP pal and Contributor, Justin Glawe for his “Chicken Thursday” post a while back. Great to meet Bart...but sadly I must now subject you to another round of...this.
Okay, now to reveal those guest stars I told you about way back in the introduction...remember that? Neither do I because I wasn’t really awake when I wrote it and I’m barely awake now, but if you’re a regular reader here at MBIP (and once again, if you’re not regular, take some of this and then just shut the fuck up already!) you’ll recognze Bart over there on the left because we just met him and then there’s Yours Fooly and next to me is a pretty young woman named PJ, who’s comments you may have seen here but up till now we had no face to put to those comments and there she is! And, it turns out that PJ is none other than the sister of MBIP pal, Michelle! As you can see, good looks run in the family and so does a great sense of humor. Great to meet PJ and hang out with Michelle who’s been out of town for a while. P. J. is in town visiting from Salt Water Taffy where she lives. And there’s MBIP pal, Todd, standing in the background grinning a grin and he’s not even drinking gin. He’s on his 27th beer. Cheers!
I’ve taken so many pictures in here, I always try to find something new and tonight I think I’ll take separate shots of the stained glass lamps that illuminate the booths.
Miller Lite...oh my, how ironic!
Head for the mountains! I think this Busch Beer commercial was the inspiration for Brokeback Mountain.
Drink six cans of this beer and you can be guaranteed to be running to the toilet with a bad case of the morning Schlitz!
No night at The Red Barn is complete without a photo of The Barn’s most regular, regular: Jim!
Cheers from Paul, you all!
Michelle and PJ are in the middle of a fiercely combative sibling stare down challenge. This lasted for 79 minutes and finally Michelle threw Tabasco sauce in PJ’s eyes and a violent sisterly catfight broke out at the bar and things got pretty scary and dangerous!
I retreated past Spuds MacKenzie and locked myself in...
The bathroom and hung out with this guy. He invited me to a stare down challenge but I declined, he doesn’t have pupils, so he has a definite advantage.
“I Love My Wife,” and what better time to express that love than when you’re having a mid-six whiz in a room covered with drunken, curse-filled graffiti! Nice to know that romance is still in the air...along with the smell of beer and piss. Thanks to the Red Barn and everybody who came and hung out, another fun-filled night on the town! We’ll see you all tomorrow...and hey, let’s be careful out there!
