A couple of week’s ago I started my Peoria Hofbrau World Beer Tour and got up to seven beers and fourteen points into the tour. Today is week number two and we’ll see how far we get in our second week of touring today! It’s off to the Hofbrau House we go!
Here we are at Peoria Hofrbrau for the second week of my World Beer Tour.
Let's go in and start this week's tour of beer.
It's always nice and dark in here, even in the middle of a sunny afternoon it feels like midnight in here. Perfect!
Time to get a beer and start week number two of our World Beer Tour at Peoria Hofbrau.
And just like clockwork, here's pretty bartender, Henrietta serving up the first beer of this week's tour, a Smithwick's.
There's Hans MacKenzie standing guard amidst the various bottles behind the bar. Guter hund!
As noted last week, they have over a dozen drafts in here, so I thought I'd highlight a few of them every week. Here's this weeks quartet of taps.
This sign hangs over the bar and Henrietta told me that it translates to: "In Heaven There Is No Beer." I guess that's why we drink it here!
Gordon was seated next to me at the bar and as we talked it turns out we have some common acquaintances. Lots of six degrees of separation in Peoria!
Here's Bob Whitaker who we met on our first week of touring, for those that missed it, Bob has done the World Beer Tour an amazing 116 times and he's now on his 117th tour! I stand humbled in front of this world class beer drinker!
Since we've got several more weeks ahead of us on this beer tour, I thought we'd document the Peoria Hofbrau in sections. Today we'll look at this corner of the restaurant.
The table is all set and waiting for the dinner rush to begin which will happen in about an hour.
Postcards and pictures of the homeland of Germany are displayed on the wall over here.
German beer steins, flags and trinkets stand at attention on this shelf over here.
A Hofbrau vanity license plate from the Land of Lincoln hangs on the wall in the corner over here.
Yet another mug shot for your pleasure!
A shot of the dining tables and the bar from the back corner.
The lunch counter is dark now, but if you come here between 11AM and 1PM it's a hotbed of activity!
Meanwhile back at the bar Chris and Vinny have settled in where Gordon was seated. Vinny just started his first World Beer Tour and is displaying his ticket. It turns out that Vinny's a musician and we have more than several friends in common. We had a great chat about music, Peoria and of course, beer!
And now time for the dinner portion of this weeks World Beer Tour!
I got the Jaeger Schnitzel which is covered in a sea of mushroom gravy and comes with a side of Spaetzle. A delicious and hearty dinner to soak up some of the beers from this week's tour.
And speaking of beer, we'll have one for dessert...
And it's time to say, "Danke Schön" and we'll see you all tomorrow. And hey, let's be careful out there!
