Okay, it’s that time of week to drop off buckets to a couple of businesses on the MBIP Bucket List. In case you missed it, we’ve started a new page here which is links and banners to some of MBIP’s favorite places, check it out here. There’s links to their websites, facecrack pages and everyone has a link to a post that was done on them here at the blog.
I’ve been delivering buckets to these places so they can design them, dress them up and then display them in their business showing that they are a branded MBIP Bucket List business! Today’s stops are the No Wake Zone and Kenny’s Westside Pub.
Here we are at the No Wake Zone. It's a perfect day to be visiting this fun bar that overlooks the river. Sadly, I have to go to work later, so there won't be any beer for me. I feel kind of gypped already.
I called the day before to make sure that No Wake Zone host and owner, Pete Clarno would be on board so I could personally deliver the bucket to him. He promised me he'd be there, so let's go in, say hi and present him with his very own MBIP bucket!
Hmmm....don't see Pete at the bar...
He's not back here in the dining room, let's go ask at the bar, maybe he's back in the kitchen.
Steve the bartender told me that Pete wasn't in the bar and wasn't scheduled to be. The whole bucket thing left him a little confused and now I'm kind of out of wack since Pete isn't here to receive his bucket. We've been stood up...sob! Somebody cue up Ricky Nelson!
Since Pete isn't here, let's go outside to the beer patio and regroup.
It sure is nice out here and I sure could go for a beer about now...I better get back inside before I call in sick to work and get into trouble! It's too tempting out here!
Once they run out of space in here, Pete and Linda are going to have to break down and finally get a cash register rather than tacking their money up on the wall in here.
Pete Clarno may not be in the house, but Stumpy Pete is! "If you dig on swine, try some of mine!" That's his way of saying, "Eat me!" Love the Stumpy Pete!
Don't forget to save the date of Friday, June 20th when Doug Stone is playing an exclusive show here for one night only. You can get your tickets in advance at the bar, but hurry up as they're going quickly!
Wow, this picture brings back memories and just a little bit of heartburn! You know I haven't had a chili dog since the victory party here at No Wake Zone last year...
And so it's back to the bar we go...
The table is all set...oh, oh...generic yellow mustard...one more thing to give Pete shit about when we finally meet up face to face!
There it is, the award-winning No Wake chili cheese dog. I haven't had one since the party and now this dog has me drooling. Alert the media because man is just about to bite dog.
Wow, I forgot how good these things are! The chili is hidden by the mound of cheese, but it's so tasty. I really could use about ten beers now...oh the torture!
Alright, through the magic of the interwebs we've been fast-forwarded through a shift of work and it's night time and we're at Kenny's Westside Pub!
Plenty of seats at the bar and I can finally have that beer I've been waiting for since the No Wake Zone!
And here's the pretty bartender on duty, Samantha serving that aforementioned beer up! Her shirt reminds me that I still need to mail Joey D. a t-shirt! I swear there's not enough time in the day, I need to get a personal assistant!
And there's Katie who's bartending tonight too. It's her second night on the job and she said that so far, owner Sean Kenny hasn't yelled at her. Give it time, Katie, give it time! Speaking of Sean, they told me he wasn't there, but he should be back soon. Let's take a look around until he shows up. Hopefully we won't be stood up a second time!
Wow, the room over here has been totally redone. The pool table is gone and Sean's put in a large wooden communal table. Nice, we may have to have our next Contributor's Lunch here!
There's a drawing over there in the corner I've never seen...
It's a drawing of legendary Irishman, Michael Collins. Samantha told me it was commissioned and drawn specifically for Kenny's. Very cool! Kenny's has a food challenge called, "The Big Fellow," that's inspired by Michael Collins. Check it out on their menu. And if you want to try something tasty off the menu, try the Marty Womburger or the Cheesy Marty Pizza!
These high rise tables along the wall are new too, this place is really looking cool! I love the vintage Guinness posters in here too.
And as I get back to the bar, there's Sean Kenny already decorating the bucket with a perfect sticker! This guy is always one step ahead of the game! And check out "The Continental" T-Shirt! Ha, I forgot all about that skit!
Matt stopped by the bar to pick up some items that Sean's donating for a benefit for Matt's brother's two daughters at the Norwood Pub 'n Grub. It's the Joshua Woodson Memorial Bash and it's being held on June 28th. There's a ride starting at 10AM and the Bash begins at 5PM with food and live music by Phat Kitty. It'll be a great time and all proceeds go to a trust fund established for Josh's two daughters.
Matt was there with Melissa, who owned the bar before Sean when it was the Dormitory. I think that's a good enough reason to cue up, "It's A Small World!"
Sean pointed out this vintage Old Style stained glass clock behind the bar that he recently acquired. "Pure Brewed In God's Country." You gottal love that! Sean told me the clock itself doesn't work, so it's permanently set to 4:20. Hmm...I wonder how he decided on that time?
Check it out, this guy doesn't fuck around, he's putting the MBIP Bucket to good use already!
Cheers and we'll see you all tomorrow!
