Last Saturday when I was doing my Saturday Night Cheeseburger thing, I met an MBIP reader and former Peorian, Ryan Norgart who suggested that I stop at Tim and Shelly’s Second St. Bar and Grill in Chillicothe. He said that not only is it a great bar, but they have some sort of root beer that’s got alcohol in it and he said it was unbelievable. And so, to once again prove that we do take requests here at MBIP, it’s off to Chillicothe we go!
And we're off and rolling into the night at a blazing 12 miles per hour! Go Speed Racer...go!
Here we are at Tim and Shelly's Second St. Bar and Grill, it looks like a nice place.
Let's go in and see what's shaking inside.
There's some sort of party going on over on the left side of the bar, so I think we'll grab a seat over here to the right...
And before I sit down, I spy a familiar face...
It's MBIP pal and Contributing Writer, Jeff Putnam with a friend...it kind of looks like his friend might be on the Ecstasy, but who are we to judge? Great to see Jeff and I settled in at the end of the bar with him to catch up on things.
As soon as I sat down, I got a mug of the infamous Adult Root Beer that Ryan had told me about from Shelly, the pretty co-owner of the bar. If that's Shelly, I'm guessing Tim, her husband and the other co-owner of the joint can't be far behind...
And I was right, there's Tim and Shelly the owners and namesakes of Tim and Shelly's Second St. Bar and Grill. Tim told me that the Adult Root Beer is brewed by a friend of his outside of Chicago and it's a popular item around there. Tim is the only one who has this product in this area and I suggest you stop by and try it. It's really tasty and has a bit of a kick to it, thanks to Ryan for this suggestion, the Adult Root Beer and the bar are both fantastic!
The party down at the end of the bar was for Dennis and Carla, seated here at the bar. It's their 32nd wedding anniversary! They don't look old enough to have been married 32 years, must've been a teenage wedding!
Here's Dennis and Carla with Maggie and Greg who were part of the celebration party. Congratulations on 32 years, Dennis and Carla, here's to 32 more!
Tex was down here at the end of the bar hoisting a drink. Tex is a cook here and has worked here for over three years. He said he'd make Jeff and I a treat from back in the kitchen. Nice!
Check out the tin ceiling overhead above the fan. Tim told me that it's the original ceiling that's been in the building and that the building itself is over 100 years old.
Tables line the wall opposite the bar.
They've got a selection of half a dozen beers on tap behind the bar.
There's a dining room just a step down from the bar. The bar has a full menu with nightly specials and you can check it out by clicking here.
It's very nice down here, I really like the brick wall and comfortable atmosphere.
Booths line the far wall, I'll have to stop back here for dinner one of these nights.
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
Tex serves up the treat he prepared for us in the kitchen, corn dogs and french fries! Very nice!
Tex took a photo of Jeff and I with our corn dogs ready to be bitten into.
And these were no ordinary corn dogs, these are chili cheese corn dogs and the chili and cheese are stuffed inside of the dog itself. Probably the best corn dog I've ever had and the perfect excuse...
To order up another Adult Root Beer! I was too full to try it, but Tim told Jeff and I that if you want a scoop of ice cream added to the drink they'll plop one in for an Adult Root Beer float. I'll have to try that next time! It'll be a good excuse to come back!
Tim told me that they have the longest bathroom in town and they call it the alley...
So of course they had to put a bowling pin in the alley. And all this just has to lead up to...
An obligatory bathroom mirror shot! Thanks to Tim, Shelly, Tex, Jeff and everybody at the bar for a fun night out in Chillicothe! We'll see you all tomorrow...and hey, let's be careful out there!

Bonus Spalding Photo!
After reading yesterday’s post, MBIP reader and pal, Jimmy LaHood (who we last saw in the Graduate post), sent in this photo of a pamphlet he has from the 40’s or 50’s that was for a fundraising effort to build the Spalding gym. Very cool, thanks Jimmy!
