There’s several bars I like to keep on a rotating list here at MBIIP and one of them is The Red Barn. I just checked the Archive Page and it’s been over three months since we last stopped in there. We’re overdue...to the MBIP Moblie!
And we’re off and traveling at a blazing speed of 19 MPH! I live my life on the edge of the night and no one can slow me down!
Here we are at the Red Barn. Always a nice feeling to see this place.
Time to go behind the green door and see what’s happening inside.
Right off the bat I see a familiar face sitting their at the corner of the bar...
It’s Jim, who’s a regular here and I think his picture has been featured on every Red Barn post I’ve done on MBIP.
And here’s two more of the irregular regulars at The Red Barn, Fletch and Tom (who's pretending to be short)! Nice to see the old gang in here!
Jim introduced me to Beth and Ron at the bar and it turns out I went to high school with Beth’s sister, Lynn! I remember Beth from when Lynn would have parties at her parents house when they were out of town and Beth was just a little kid! And now, you know what has to be done...time to cue up, “It’s A Small World After All!” P.S. Beth and Ron have been married just about a year now, so congratulations to these two newlyweds!
Okay, it’s time for a beer and check it out, it’s served up by one of Peoria’s prettiest and friendliest bartenders in town, the lovely, Jenny! Always a treat to see her behind the bar!
Speaking of the bar, there it is in all it’s glory with Spuds Mackenzie looming over the top of it and the ever-present Nut Hut to the left.
They have a half a dozen beers on tap at the bar.
I love the stained glass lamps that hover over the booths.
I think I spy a couple of familiar faces in one of the booths...
It’s MBIP pals, Justin and Amber! These two are sitting nearby a picture of the Fab Four, which is fitting because around town they’re known as the fifth and sixth Beatles. But don’t tell Ringo, we’re keeping it a secret from him. If you haven’t checked out Justin’s blog, “Story of the Summer,” you should do it now, it’s an ongoing report about crime, people, rumblings, tumblings and events in some of the dicier parts of P-Town. It’s updated often with great stories, check it out here. Justin also has a breaking story over at Vice about the fake Mayor Ardis Twitter account and you can read that here, it just went up!
I sat down to have a beer with Amber and Justin and some graffiti on the wall caught my eye...
I’m guessing somebody from Avanti’s was in here!
We were sweating our asses off at the booth and then realized the light overhead was blazing hot...
Boom boom...
Out go the lights. Much better!
Here’s some rambling quote about Socialism some dipshit whacked out of his gourd on low-rent mescaline put here. (Inside joke alert!)
I noticed a wreath at the end of the bar and Jenny told me all of the Christmas lights and decorations are still up from last year, they just keep them turned off until holiday season. Well, get ready for an MBIP Christmas in April miracle...
Jenny turned all the lights on and so now let’s all scream out that Kardashian sisters holiday chant: “Ho, ho, ho!”
Here’s the wreath that inspired this moment that hangs beneath the giant Cubs hat.
Even the booths are all lit up!
Here’s a shot from the back of the bar.
Wow, check these out...
Little Christmas Story lights...be careful, they’re fragile!
On my way out, I glanced at the bulletin board in the front foyer of the bar and saw two familiar business cards...
Yes, it’s another adventure of Dueling Business Cards starring MBIP and our pals over at All Smiles Dental Care! Deedle-dee-dee-dee! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
