Live from Peoria, Illinois it’s Saturday Night with this week’s host, The Jukebox Comedy Club starring Charlie Murphy and featuring The Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now, please welcome all the way from Farmington Road, The Jukebox Comedy Club starring Charlie Murphy!
We are off and running on a Saturday night. Here we are blazing up Main Street towards Farmington Road. Usually Saturday nights are dedicated to getting a Saturday Night dinner, but tonight we're doing something a little different. Charlie Murphy is appearing at The Jukebox Comedy Club, so I thought we'd check that out. We haven't been there since Wendy Liebman appeared there, so we're overdue for a visit.
Here we are at Peoria's only comedy club, The Jukebox Comedy Club. Let's go inside and see what's shaking.
This is the lounge area where you can hang out before the show starts in the theater. As you can see there's a square bar here where you can get a drink and they also serve pizza, nachos and other pub snacks.
As you can see, the bottom of the bar is decorated with paintings of local comedy legends, Richard Pryor and Sam Kinison.
Michelle, one of the pretty bartenders on duty serves up an ice-cold bottle of Budweiser. Michelle told me she's a loyal MBIP reader and I always love to hear that!
We met Jeff Bailey on our last visit here, he's a local comedian who's a regular here at The Jukebox. Great to see him again!
We last saw Brett Erickson in the film preview of, "The Trail Of Blood," which was featured at the world premiere of Greg and Dan's film, "Asian Carpnado," at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. Brett's hosting tonight's show, so we'll see him onstage soon.
There's tables and chairs in the lounge area opposite the bar. There's not too many people right now, but give it a few minutes and it'll fill up soon. I heard this show is just about sold out.
See, I told you so. They're coming in fast and furious through the door now...
So I secured myself a seat at the end of the bar, here's the view from where I'm perched.
I saw Wes, who's an MBIP pal waiting in line. He told me he was excited to see Charlie Murphy's set.
It's packed in here now, wall to wall people have gathered for the show!
The door to the theater has opened up and everyone's heading inside.
That's the ticket!
You can't take photos in here when the comedians are on stage, so I quickly took one with a flash before the show started so you can get an idea of how the stage looks in here. The next group of photos will be a little fuzzy because I'll have to take them from my seat with the flash off.
Actually, this shot didn't turn out so bad, it's previously mentioned Brett Erickson doing hosting duties onstage.
Chicago-based comedian Shawn Morgan was up next and everyone was howling with laughter during his set. This photo is a little fuzzy...
But here's a better shot of myself and Shawn after his set hanging out in the lounge.
Local comedian and Jukebox regular Billi Casey was up next and was really funny but once again the photo is fuzzy...
So here's a better shot of Billi taken after she was done with her set.
After Billi's set there was a film retrospective of Charlie Murphy's work and then, ladies and gentlemen...
Charlie Murphy! Charlie killed from the minute he stepped on stage!
And yeah, once again these photos suck and are kind of fuzzy, but stay tuned because...
There's a meet and greet after the show where you can can buy Charlie Murphy merchandise and meet Charlie Murphy and get an autograph from him. Not every comic does this at The Jukebox, so it was cool to see this happen at this show.
Ha! Check out the Charlie Murphy t-shirt!
I'm not the only one taking photos of the meet and greet stage set up.
Here's Charlie Murphy ready to meet and greet on stage and I can finally take a flash photo of him.
In addition to t-shirts, Charlie Murphy was selling copies of his book, "The Making of a Stand Up Guy." As you can see, Jeff's off to the right helping out on stage.
He was really accommodating and happily posed for photos with everyone.
Here's another guy taking a photo with his smart phone, I think I'm the only one in here using an actual camera to take pictures. This has nothing to do with anything, but I just want to throw it out there like so much summer wheat: I hate smart phones and refuse to get one. So there!
This guy's getting a t-shirt signed and I'm up next...
Here's Charlie Murphy signing my book...
And a shot of the two of us taken by Jeff.
Money shot: Charlie Murphy flashes the MBIP card! Thanks to everyone at The Jukebox Comedy Club for a great night! You can get more Charlie Murphy information right here at his website. We'll see you all tomorrow!
