I’ve been meaning to go to EastPort Marina Cantina Bar & Grill all summer long and now since summer’s almost over I bet get my ass over there before they close for the season. Yes, hard to believe that summer’s just about done, but as I always say, fun flies when you’re having time. And, unlike those Rollers of Stone, time is never on my side. It’s usually behind me as I’m eternally early. Or something like that. Okay, let’s hit the road.
This place is in East Peoria on Mariners Way. I have no idea where that is, so it's time to consult with my old friend and guiding light, Mr. GPS. Looks like we're going to continue to Madison Avenue.
And so it's off we go, continuing on to Madison Avenue with a banjo on my knee. I need to see a doctor about getting that thing removed!
And through the miracle of the internets you're spared a sweat-soaked ride over the bridge and the nightmare of hearing, "Dust In the Wind" played simultaneously on two different radio stations at the same time. Okay, let's walk the plank and check this place out.
Here we is!
I like the neon Bud Boat in the window.
The entrance is in the back of the building here.
Here's the door, let's go in and see what's shaking at the EastPort Marina Cantina!
It looks like a slow night in here. I asked if they were closing because some of the chairs were up on the tables, but I was told they were open until midnight, so let's belly up to the bar.
This seat seems to be calling my name, let's sit down and get the first beer of the evening.
And here it is served up by the super-cute bartender on deck, Brooke. What a great smile!
Here's the view from my perch at the bar. A tale of two frozen drink machines and a cash register that if you stare at it long enough takes on shades of a Cardboard Box Man Mutation.
Pitchers float overhead, mocking gravity.
Lit up bottles shine on brightly behind the bar.
Nautical art and photos hand on the wooden walls in here.
A state of the art dart board is situated off to the side of the room over here.
Here's tonight's specials, as you can see, you can drink cheaply in here!
The loneliest beer tap in town! I hope Spike shows mercy with his rating of this!
They have food here that they cook on a grill outside on the deck. It shuts down around 10PM, but I thought we'd go take a look at it.
Wow, that's quite the industrial grill they've got there. I'll have to try and stop back before they close for the season in October and see this baby in action!
There's a nice deck out here that overlooks the river.
And here's a view of the aforementioned river from the side of the deck.
A shot from the back of the deck.
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
Brooke serves up beer number two with the traditional MBIP two-finger salute! Cheers and we'll see you all tomorrow.
