Okay, if you saw yesterday’s blog, you know that I spent the day over at the Greg and Dan Show yesterday on WMBD radio. If you missed the show, don’t worry, here’s a rerun via pictures and a link to my interview just for you. And now, almost live from the JMP Building, in beautiful downtown Peoria...it’s the Greg and Dan Show with special guests, Marty Wombacher and Mr. Anderson!
Here we are at the JMP building in downtown Peoria. The parking space has a 30 minute time limit and I'm going to be inside for over two hours. Let's hope the parking meter gods are smiling at me today.
This is the waiting room area. It's about 6:55AM and there's no receptionist yet, so I've put in a call to Greg and Dan's producer, Jessica and she said she'd meet me here.
Obligatory waiting room mirror shot!
And here's the real welcome we've been waiting for, the pretty smiling face of producer Jessica Flynn, who Greg refers to as, "the brains behind this operation."
Okay, Jessica's led me into the inner sanctum of Greg and Dan's world, their own private radio studio. It sure is bright in here and there's the silhouette of Dan Diorio, is Greg Batton behind those screens to Dan's left?
He certainly is! Greg sits behind four digital screens and controls the mixing board...
While Dan has a more minimal space with just one small computer as he points out the Harry Nillsonish fact with his finger that one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do. Greg and Dan have been on the air on WMBD for eight years today, happy anniversary, guys! I'm not sure, but they just might be the longest running broadcasting duo in Peoria's radio history. I need to email Steve Tarter and see if he knows.
Opposite Greg and Dan in the studio is a colorful wall of chalk signatures that they've been collecting for years.
Dan points out my scrawl/signature from when I was interviewed here three years ago when I was doing my 365 day bar crawl. I had forgotten I signed the wall, but then again, that year is a bit of a blur. Okay, my life is a bit of a blur, but what are you going to do?
Alright, time to put the headphones on and get ready for my interview.
I put the headphones on wrong, always a sure-fire way to get yuks...okay, I need to think of something different next time. Anyway, the interview went great and you can listen to it by clicking on the MP3 file below.
After the interview, Greg told me that Gumby was giving him the creeps.
So he covered him up with a piece of paper. Wow, it sure can get harsh in here, sorry Gumby!
Dueling cameras! Deedle-dee-dee-dee.
Holy smokes, I hope Orkin is a sponsor of the show because there sure is a lot of mice in here!
Meanwhile, back in Peoria...
And look over there behind the glass, it's my old pal, "Slammin'" Ed Hammond doing news reports and holding up his arms in an effort to mock Gumby, who has no arms to hold you. Sob.
Speaking of Gumby, we should note that he's still covered up.
But, as you can see, Gumby's not the only thing covered in here.
And then, as if on cue, Dan starts talking about Jimmy Hoffa possibly being uncovered during his conspiracy theory segment. Oh, ho, ho...it's magic!
Here's today's special guest star on The Greg and Dan Show, Mr. Anderson. When they told me Mr. Anderson was going to be the special guest, I was excited I was going to get to meet Robert Young, who I thought had died years ago...
Well, it turns out that this Mr. Anderson is a famous professional wrestler who's going to be wrestling at the Civic Center tonight. He's an intelligent and interesting guy and it was a fun interview to listen to. You can listen to it right here. Oh, and Robert Young? He's still dead.
Blake and Ryan who are WMBD's Video Wizards came in to the studio to film the interview, check it out here.
Here's a couple of people that came with Mr. Anderson. As you can see, they're very interested in the interview and what goes on here behind the scenes at the Greg and Dan show.
And just for the record, Gumby...still covered up.
Dan's back.
Okay, the show's over, but I stuck around to watch the filming of the latest episode of...
Greg's Big Black Couch! This is a fun interview series that Greg started a couple months ago. Past guests include, Tim Meadows and Walt Willey. Check out this episode here and wait for the ending, it's hilarious!
Okay, it's time to hit the road and Gumby's finally uncovered. Thanks to Jessica, Greg and Dan for having me on the show and letting me goof around during the entire show time, it was a blast as always!
Hey look, there's a piece of paper on my windshield. Maybe Mayor Ardis heard me on the show and left me a thank you note for doing a positive Peoria blog. Let's take a look...
Oh no, it's a parking ticket! Looks like those parking meter gods decided not to smile at me after all. Oh well, you know what they say, you can't fight City Hall...hey, wait a second, I know someone who just might be able to...oh, Mr. Anderson...
