Last month we started a new monthly feature here at MBIP where if you go into Emack & Bolio’s ice cream store in the Heights and say a secret word to whoever is working and order a certain flavor, you get a buck off of your order! A decent amount of people came by and said the secret word, which was “Erin” and they got a buck off their ice cream treat. What I didn’t know was that the owners of Emack’s, Tim and Jim are not only taking a dollar off when you say the secret word of the month, they also donate a dollar to St. Jude, which is a great orginization.
Like I said, A nice amount of people stopped in and said the secret word last month, but if they knew not only are they saving a buck when they go in, they’re also donating a dollar to St. Jude’s via Emack & Bolio’s, we might have even more people stop by this month. We’ll see.
So what’s the new flavor and secret word of the month? Well you just have to read the post to find that out. Sheesh!
I thought I'd bring Gumby along for the ride, he hasn't been out and about since our Chicago trip and is getting a little restless. I thought the trip would do him some good.
It's a nice day as we cruise on over to Emack & Bolio's in the Heights.
And here we are at Emack & Bolio's on Prospect Avenue in the Heights.
Gumby wants to sit outside, but it's a little too bright out here for me. I'm not a big fan of the sunshine and sadly there's not too many clouds out today.
And right on cue, here's the gatekeeper of Emack & Bolio's, Tim Hennessey to open up the stairway to ice cream.
Tim's been working on a one man play that's entitled, "I Was A Teenage Lawn Jockey" and this is scene one. I can't wait to see the entire production!
We'll be entering via the outside ice cream garden and be shielded from this nasty sunshine!
And here we are inside the familiar quarters of Emack & Bolio's. Gumby's made himself at home on the counter while Tim's getting things ready for the day.
I need to get them some blackout curtains for the windows in here, it's just too bright in here!
I retreated to the back of the store, where it's sunshine free.
Here's a couple of pieces of art done by my brother Jim that Jim Kelton recently gave to the store. They're going to be placed in a new Emack & Bolio's location which will be announced next month. Stay tuned to find out about that exciting news!
Here's a picture of Tim and his grandson Jack at the store.
Tim told me who this kid is, but I forgot to write it down, maybe he'll let us know in the comments section. Whoever he is, it had to be chilly sitting in that carton of ice cream.
Meanwhile, back at the front of the shop, here's Tim with the other owner of Emack's, Jim Maxwell and they've got hold of Gumby. Is it me, or does it look like this whole group is high on the wacky tobacky? I should've known better than to leave Gumby alone with these two trouble-makers!
Okay, it's time to pick a selection from the menu for the flavor of the month. I asked Tim and Jim for a green ice cream in honor of Gumby...
They suggested Grasshopper Pie and it sounds like the perfect flavor for this month. Plus, they're so high, who am I to say no and ruin their buzz?
I've never tried one of the toppings in here, so I thought I'd sample one with a cone of this month's flavor.
I chose the Butterfinger topping and here's Tim applying it to my ice cream cone. It looks delicious!
Look at Tim, he's so stoned he thinks this is a work of art. Hey Tim, it looks like a great ice cream cone, but come on, stop holding it in such reverence. You're not handing out communion here!
And the secret word for the month is: Gumby! It's easy and tasty being green in Emack's this month, just stop by, order up a cone or bowl of Grasshopper Pie, say the secret word of, "Gumby" and you'll save a buck and they'll donate a dollar to St. Jude for all of you who play along! And I thought I was just kidding with the marijuana references, but look at Gumby attacking the ice cream cone! Can you say, "munchies?" I knew that you could!
Wow, the bargains never stop here at Emack & Bolio's, check out the fourth microwbrewed soda from the left. It's Tibet soda and it's free, such a deal! See you all tomorrow!
