For some reason I started thinking about the Little Nut Hut at Mike’s Tavern tonight at work. Then I realized that I’ve never eaten out of that Little Nut Hut. I’ve taken a lot of pictures of The Little Nut Hut on all my blogs, but I’ve never sampled the peanuts out of it. All of a sudden I had a yearning and obsession not only to eat some peanuts out of the LIttle Nut Hut, I wanted to drain the goddamn thing. Buy every stinking peanut and empty the fucker. Why not? Okay, so tonight’s mission is to drain the Little Nut Hut at Mike’s Tavern and have two beers in the process. Off we go!
It's spitting rain as I leave work and begin our journey to Mike's Tavern. Here we are heading up Main Street.
And here we are at Mike's Tavern. Hmm, the place seems a little dark tonight...
Shit, it's closed. Must've been a slow night tonight. Well, time to hit the MBIP moblie...
And improvise. Don't worry, I've got an idea, this is what I do people!
The Red Barn has a Little Nut Hut too. The light's are on here, let's see if anyone's home.
Let's see what's behind the green door.
There's always a friendly crowd in here and tonight's no exception!
And there's tonight's target, the Little Nut Hut. Let's start draining that fucking thing, I've been dreaming about this all night long!
Here's bartender Randy emptying the inaugural cup. How exciting is this?
The first cup is served!
They're warm and delicious. I love the Little Nut Hut peanuts!
The second cup is poured out and Delbert, Jim and Josh form a peanut gallery across from me at the bar. We realize that if we continue to serve the peanuts out one little container at a time, it could take all night. Jim had the genius idea to switch the containers to...
Beer ptichers. Perfect, the hut will be drained in no time and I can get home in time for my beauty sleep.
Okay, here's all the mixed nuts drained from the Little Nut Hut, we're halfway there, Agnes!
And here's the last of the cashews being spit out into this pitcher.
Check it out, we drained the Little Nut Hut.
Dreams do come true here at MBIP! But just like those pretzels, these peanuts are making me thirsty!
So bartender Randy serves up beer number one.
We had a nice conversation at the bar about the Red Barn and other Peoria bars, including Mike's Tavern.
Randy told us that he's been tending bar at the Red Barn for over 25 years. A veteran Peoria bartender! Cheers to Randy!
The peanuts are all gone...
And it's time for the final beer of the night, delivered with the traditional two-fingered salute! See you all tomorrow.
