A lot of things in Peoria have changed since I lived here almost twenty years ago. Some things haven't, and that’s what I really treasure. The Chinese restaurant Ming Shee has been at the same place on University Street for over 35 years and I’ve had many meals there in the past and developed a love of Chinese food in there while growing up here in Peoria. I haven’t been inside of that restaurant for over two decades. Time to put an end to that today, let’s go check out the lunch special at Ming Shee.
Here we are at Ming Shee, the iconic yellow awning here is still the same after all these years.
And they are open, so let's go on in.
Right through the front door we go...
You have to pass through this wooden portal...
To place your order at the front counter. The gentlemen who took my order was a little shy and ran when I took my camera out to take a photo.
Take-out menus sit next to a Chinese kitty cat at the front counter.
Well now, isn't that just special.
Hot sauce, chop sticks and other items are available to go up here at the counter.
Let's grab a seat in the dining room. After you place your order, they bring you your food in here.
Ceiling fans hover overhead in the dining area.
Chinese paintings hang on the walls in the front room.
This pink flying fish painting is pretty trippy.
Here's the view from my table, I need to get some traveling blinds to block out the sunshine in these places!
The front window looks out onto University Street where sadly an Aldi grocery store has replaced my old hangout Bowl-Mor Lanes just a few doors down.
Wow, service here is fast, my meal is brought out around five minutes after I ordered it. I got the chicken and broccoli plate and it's served with fried rice, an egg roll and crab rangooon.
Delicious and it was just eight bucks with a large iced tea, a pretty good deal for this much food.
With six you get eggroll, I was all alone and I still got one, so I'm not asking any questions.
There's nothing better than Chinese hot mustard.
And here's the fortune cookie to end the meal, let's see what it has to say.
The cookie is cracked open and our future is close at hand...
Fortune cookies suck monkey lungs these days, these are not the big issues, the big issue is whether or not I'll ever hear from the Kitchen Cooked people about getting a tour of their potato chip factory!
They give you so much food, I had to get a to-go box, looks like I've got my dinner all set for tonight.
And it's out the door we go, nice to see not much has changed at Ming Shee. See you all tomorrow!
