Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Sunday Afternoon Cheeseburger, with this week’s host, Khaki Jack’s and featuring the Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now, please welcome this week’s host, just blocks from where I live, Khaki Jack’s!
Okay, I know that usually I go out for a cheeseburger on Saturday nights and then post about it today, on Monday. Well the place I went to Saturday night stopped serving dinner at 9PM. I’ve run into this problem before and I may have to start going out for my cheeseburger on Saturday afternoon before work. I tried going somewhere else but that didn’t work out either, so I came home defeated but vowed to come back on Sunday and fulfill my cheeseburgerly duty. So here I am at my neighborhood bar, Khaki Jack’s. Let Cheeseburger Sunday Afternoon begin!
Okay, let's go in and see what's happening on a Sunday afternoon at Khaki Jack's.
We'll start the day off with an unintentional obligatory mirror shot of the kitchen hours. The kitchen is open, by the way, so that's good news!
Khaki Jack's packs them in in the daytime and the bar is crowded already, but I spy chair at the end of the bar, let's go snag it.
If you stop in at the bar, the odds are that you'll run into Reggie here. He's a regular and has his own Norm-like spot at the bar.
I settled into my seat as friendly bartender, Chuck served up a Sunday afternoon beer.
The view of the bar from my perch.
Khaki Jack's is famous for their buckets of peanuts at the bar.
Okay, let's check out the menu, where's the burgers on here...
Wow, a lot of burgers to choose from on the menu. I decided to go for the Oz burger, I've never had ostrich meat before. I wonder if it'll taste like chicken.
There's only two taps in here for my patent-pending Spike's Taps Shot., Guiness and Foster's.
Here's some beer signs hanging on the wall behind the bar.
There's tables, chairs and one fellow waiting for lunch opposite the bar in the dining area.
Buckets of peanuts are placed on top of the tables as well as the bar.
Australian license plates and one Illinois Khaki Jack's plate adorn this wall.
A colorful Khaki Jack's Australian mural is painted on the back wall.
A Koala bear hovers over the bar and stands beneath...
A gold tin ceiling, always the mark of an excellent bar!
The peanut shells are piling up as I wait for the cheeseburger to be served up.
Alright, the table is set, looks like it's just about time for that cheeseburger moment of truth!
And here it is, wow, it looks like a great burger!
The ostritch has a lean and bold taste and I got it topped with jalapeno bacon and cheddar cheese. Delicious!
Just as I finished up my burger, MBIP contributor, Whale showed up. Here he is shielding his wife Sue from the MBIP camera with a picture that's going to accompany his story this Saturday. Stay tuned for that!
And yet another MBIP contributor shows up, here's Bob Gordon hoisting a beer. We've almost got a contributor's lunch going on here! Okay, I'm going to go brainstorm with Bob, Whale and Sue and we'll see you all tomorrow!
Cheeseburger Rating
Three Wimpy's, a delicious ostrich burger. And it didn't taste like chicken at all!
