Just a little over a month ago I had the tenth tenderloin of my twenty week tenderloin tour at AmVets Post 64. I was amazed when I got there at the size of the bar in the basement. For some reason I thought it would be a little dinky bar, but it’s a great place and I told them I’d be back. And so tonight I’m making good on that promise. So let’s go hit the road and see if it hits back!
And here we go on a rainy Thursday night in Peoria. Oh well, at least it's not freezing rain.
I love this building and it looks even better in the nighttime! Look for the subtle, "talk to the hand" image in this photo.
Let's go in and get out of this drizzling rain.
They have lunch here every day and I suggest you come on Tuesday for the tenderloin special.
Deja view! I remember this stairwell.
This place is not officially opened to the public at night and this door is locked...
You have to hit this buzzer and see if they let you in. This is one of the rare times I'm buzzing before I even hit the bar!
Yes! I've been granted access to the place. It sure looks festive in here and there's plenty of seats at the bar. Let's go get settled in and have a beer!
Sis, the friendly and pretty bartender on duty serves up a beer with a wonderful smile. Check out that Christmas sweater, I love it! Sis has been a member and worked here for over twenty years. A true veteran!
Here's my view of Sis in action behind the bar.
The dining area is situated right behind the bar and has lots of large circular tables to sit at and enjoy a meal.
A shot from the opposite end of the bar.
Colorful lights have been placed on the ceiling for holiday decorations in here.
And stockings hang over the bar, in keeping with this festive theme.
Here's some snowmen bathed in green lights.
Check out the little village. I wonder if John Hiatt and Nick Lowe are in there?
Santy Claus is paused for the cause.
We now interrupt this holiday photo-fest to present, Thomas! Thomas is Sis's son and her ride home. He also does the same type of job I do, but for a different company. And since I don't blog about work, that's all I'm going to say about that!
Here's a shot of the horseshoe bar from a different angle.
There's a couple of holiday parties coming up in here...
And there's a weekly jackpot drawing here if you're a rambling gambling sort of person.
Check out the specially made Budweiser neon sign made for this place...hey, what's that over to the left?
A popcorn machine and it's free of charge!
You know what free popcorn says to me?
Merry Christmas, baby! We'll see you all tomorrow...and hey, let's be careful out there!
