Buckle up your seat belts and get ready to get all gassed up, because it’s time for yet another exciting edition of Dashboard Dining. Vroom, vroom, honk, honk and all that jazz!
Okay, I just got off work, I’m starvin’ like old Marvin and the gas tank is running on empty. This can mean only one thing...DASHBOARD DINING!
And so it’s off we go, in search of gas and food, hopefully in that order!
Here’s a Casey’s General Store on Farmington Road, I’ve heard the pizza here is good, so I think this is this episode’s stop.
Do they even need to put out a sign that says, “Self Service?” Is there any gas stations that have attendants that actually pump the gas for you anymore? If anybody knows of one, let me know, that would make for a good post!
But for now, we’ll put about ten bucks in, which should get me home at least!
It looks like a nice little store, let’s see what’s on the menu for tonight.
Here’s some sandwiches in the fridge.
The sandwiches here are made fresh daily, if you don’t believe me...
Just ask this lovely lady, she’s making up a batch of them right now! The kitchen is sparkling clean, impressive. I have high hopes for this Dashboard Dining dinner!
A big selection of chips in here but...
I gotta go with the local favorite, Kitchen Cooked. As I noted in the last Dashboard Dining episode, the chips are made in the neighboring town of Farmington, Illinois. I need to get there and do a post from their potato chip factory.
I really missed these in New York, I think tonight we’ll go with the tangy Louisiana style chips.
They sell pizza by the slice in here. Something you don’t find a lot in Peoria as I noted on my Sunday outing to Hoops bar a couple of weeks ago. I was thinking about the sandwich, but I gotta go with the pepperoni slice.
Obligatory bakery case mirror shot!
Lots of cookies on display on the counter up by the register.
I think I’ll try one of these cups of cookies for dessert.
There’s lots of choices in here, fresh apples are right next to Wisconsin beef jerky. I think they’re trying to live up to the slogan above them.
Okay, here’s tonight’s Dashboard Dining meal at the counter!
The meal is in the bag, to the MBIP tasting mobile!
Here's the meal on the dashboard, time to dig in!
I'm starting off with the Kitchen Cooked Louisiana Style potato chips as an appetizer. They're spicy and tangy, but not so hot as to blow the roof off your mouth. I swear these are the best potato chips in the world! And no, this is not a paid endorsement, although if someone from the Kitchen Cooked offices is reading this and wants to send me a case or two of free potato chips, well, feel free! Cash works too!
The pizza is homemade on the premises, quite a rarity for gas station grub!
And it's a delicious, crispy slice. My compliments to the pizza chef at Casey's!
And now it's time for dessert as I clutch the cup of cookies.
The cookies were just as fresh as the rest of the meal and a tasty treat. All in all, a great dashboard dining experience.
And now we're homeward bound...
And it's time to wash that dinner down! Cheers and see you all tomorrow!
Dashboard Dining Review—Casey’s General Store
Tonight’s Dashboard Dining happily swung in the opposite direction of the last one. The pizza slice was tasty and made fresh that day. The cheese and pepperoni were tangy and the crust was right between thin and thick and was done to perfection. I really enjoyed the Louisiana Style Kitchen Kitchen Cooked Potato Chips as well. They too were fresh and packed a pound of zing with each chip. And the cup of cookies? Delicious!
Casey’s General Store on Farmington is clean, the staff are friendly and nice and I highly recommend it the next time you’re on the road and both your stomach and gas tank are growling! Beep beep beep beep, yeah!
Official Dashboard Dining Rating
Four Gas Pumps, I’d fill both of my tanks here again anytime, delicious dining!

Bonus CBBM Sighting By Ragin' RR!
MBIP reader and former commenter and quote-master (computer problems have ceased his commentary for now, hopefully one of these days he'll return) Ragin' RR sent in this Cardboard Box Man Mutation sighting via email with the cryptic message of, "Nature's Own CBM Mutation." Aaahhhh!
