I work six days a week (and I’m not complaining about that, it’s a short shift and I’m happy to have the job) and Sunday is usually my only day off. So I’ve decided I’m going to go out every Sunday and do something special and put it up here on Tuesday. Okay, that means I’ll probably be going to a bar most Sunday’s, but I don’t think the wonderful readers of MBIP will have a problem with that. In fact it’ll give me a chance to revisit some of the taverns that I went to on the 365 Bar Crawl a couple of years ago.
And speaking of bars I went to on the Bar Crawl, tonight we’re going to one. Way back in time, I was a regular at Jimmy’s Bar on Farmington Road. The owner of the bar, Jimmy Spears is a great guy and I always say he’s one of the few bar owners that never threw me out back in my wild youth! My friends Tim and Tina are coming over (you’ll remember Tim from my Emack & Bolio’s post last week) to look at my new apartment and then we’re off to Jimmy’s.
One fun aspect of tonight is I’m meeting a Twitter friend who I met online a couple of years ago. I knew her husband Andy because he worked at Multi-Ad, which printed my magazine POP. His wife Liz started following me on Twitter, I followed back and while we’ve Tweeted back and forth online for a couple of years, we’ve never met in person. So tonight, we’re meeting at Jimmy’s. Okay, let’s get this Sunday night party started!
Here's Tim and Tina on my futon in my apartment. I told them to give me the finger and they gave me the wrong one. Wise guys!
And through the magic of the internet we're magically transported to Jimmy's Bar on Farmington Road!
And Tim and Tina spot a friend before we even get in the bar. Here they are with the aforementioned friend, Mike. Okay, enough of dawdling around outside, let's get in and get a drink already!
Here's that first drink served up by friendly bartender Jay. Mike generously bought the first round, so thanks to Mike for that! And I know Professor Dungpie is going to like Jay's Green Bay sweatshirt!
And here's my Twitter pal Liz to the right and her friend Erin to the left. It was great to meet them both!
Cheers from our table!
A shot from the end of the bar as we know it. And I feel fine.
All these festive lights in here are making me think of Rolf's back in New York. I will miss going there this year.
As you can see, behind the bar is quite festive as well.
A longshot of Jimmy's bar where I've sat and had countless numbers of beers at.
Tim Hennessey...EXTREME CLOSE UP! He was blind for twelve minutes after this shot.
Here's Tim with Molly, who's the daughter of my friends, Jim and Colleen. It was great to meet her, but you start to feel old in Peoria as you run into friends children in bars.
As you can see, there's a wide variety of bottled beer available at Jimmy's Bar!
A signed picture from Captain Kangaroo hangs on the wall. Mr. Greenjeans would've signed it too, but he was passed out behind the bar. He never could hold his liquor!
Bernard Allison! I know this guy, I used to live next door to his mom. It's a long story I need to write up one of these days.
The countdown to St. Patty's Day has begun at Jimmy's. 89 days, 2 hours, 24 minutes and 4800 seconds till I lock the doors and stay home while all the nutcases go nuts on St. Patrick's Day. I avoid that holiday just like I do New Year's Eve!
Let's go check out Jimmy's Beer Garden.
Wow, it's huge out here! Oh and welcome home Rorke! I didn't even know you were gone!
Okay, it's 9:44 and we all know what time that is...time for a Butch's Pizza at Jimmy's Bar!
And, once again, through the magic of these here internets, the pizza magically appears, served up by Tim! It looks great!
A tasty way to end a great Sunday night out with friends! See you all tomorrow, same Bat time, same Bat statiion!
