Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night, starring this week’s host, Pop-Up Chicken Shop.
Now, please welcome, from beautiful downtown Peoria, Pop-Up Chicken Shop!
Here we are at the Pop-Up Chicken restaurant on Adams Street in downtown Peoria.
It’s an impressive building, let’s go in and start this week’s Saturday night adventure!
You have to order at this front desk when you walk in. The woman working there was friendly and helpful, but didn’t want her picture taken.
They have two menus to choose from, The Love Shack menu and the Pop-Up menu. They also have nightly specials. I prefer sitting down first, getting a drink and then ordering, but what are you going to do?
I placed my order and then I was given a table to go and settle in at.
Wow, it’s a large and impressive main dining room in here.
I was given table five to be seated at and I got an iced tea to start the night off with.
I was going to get a beer, but I was told they’re still waiting on their liquor license to sell alcohol in here. Wah, wah wah.
Now that we’ve settled in, let’s go and take a look around in here while our dinner is being prepared.
There’s another dining area in the back over here. This place is really big and has lots of seating options.
They have a nice bar area in the back with a lit-up sign of the chicken logo on the back wall.
They’re all set for a nice selection of beers on tap, hopefully the liquor license comes through soon!
Lights and plants hang overhead and there’s a couple of large communal tables seated opposite of the bar.
I love that chicken painting on the wall and here’s an elevated photo of the main dining area.
Meanwhile, back at our table, our Saturday night dinner has arrived!
Here’s an overhead shot of it and it looks absolutely fabulous!
I got a side of the mac ‘n cheese and the coleslaw and both were fantastic side dishes.
The mac ‘n cheese was made with rich and creamy gouda cheese and it was very tasty and satisfying.
The cole slaw was vinegar based and it was a crunchy treat! We’re off to a fabulous start here!
And now, on to the star of tonight’s dinner, the Pop-Up chicken!
This is billed as “Illinois Hot Chicken” and I got the breast and four wings. Let’s dig in and try it out!
The chicken comes in four different degrees of heat and I went with the hottest on the menu.
The chicken breast was cooked to perfection and was so crispy on the outside and tender and juicy as you bit inside.
As I said, I got the hottest level of heat because I love hot and spicy food and the heat was somewhat intense, but it hit and then quickly faded. It also had a nice zingy flavor to it and this is really delicious chicken!
They also have their own signature Pop-Up sauce and it was a savory and tasty delight and added a nice flavor level to the chicken breast!
The dinner came with house-made pickle slices and a slice of hot buttery Texas toast which were delightful palate cleansers between chicken dishes.
My dinner also came with four chicken wings and they were just as crispy, juicy and tasty as the chicken breast.
The Pop-Up sauce tasted wonderful on the wings and this was a spectacular chicken dinner! If they could just change the ordering process it would be perfect.
I highly recommend The Pop-Up Chicken Shop in downtown Peoria and I’ll be returning soon to try out some of the other offerings on the menu!
