It’s been over two months since I’ve gotten a Main Street meal as we tour up that street and hitting every eatery until it turns into Western Avenue in West Peoria. Our next stop is B Easy and since you can’t eat inside of B Easy, I’ve got an idea for a new segment here on MBIP. Come along and you’ll see...
Here we are traveling up Main Street in the MBIP Mobile to our next stop as we eat our way up the hill.
We've parked and there's B Easy, just across the street. Let's see if we can get over there without being run over by the odd pickup truck or Volkswagon Beetle.
Okay, here we are at B Easy...
And they are open! If you're not familiar with their schedule here, they open for lunch from 11:30AM to 1:30PM and then they open up for the late night crowd from midnight to 5AM. You can always check their facecrack page for schedules and food special updates. And if you look closely you can see an obligatory silhouette mirror shot, which I believe is a first here at MBIP!
The special of the day is ham and cream cheese sliders. I was thinking about getting the Italian Beef, because it's the best in town, but these sound tempting. Keep on scrolling to see what I finally decide upon!
You order up here at the window...
And here's pretty Stephanie behind the screen taking my order.
This is Mike who's going to cook up today's lunch from B Easy, can't wait because the food here is always a treat!
Here's the menu, it's all specialty sandwiches including the aforementioned Italian Beef, a meatball sandwich, the hot Sicilian and a ham and cheese. There's also daily specials and they also sell sundry items like aspirin, cigarettes and candy.
After I placed my order Dale came up to order a sandwich. Stephanie told me he's a regular here for lunch
Here's three hungry working guys coming here for a bountiful lunch. The gentleman on the right recognized me and said he's a faithful MBIP reader, always love to hear that!
Here's everyone waiting for their order outside of B Easy. Usually it's just a couple minutes from the time you order...
To where the food is bagged and ready to put in the MBIP Mobile.
Okay, we're back on Main Street and it's time to introduce a new on-going segment here on MBIP. I thought it would be fun every now and again to get lunch and then go to a local place of business and see if we can eat lunch in their lunchroom. My plan is to show up unannounced and then see what happens. Like so much of what we do here, it's just more of what I like to call, "improv journalism."
This is the spot to see if we can eat our lunch in for this debut episode, Converse Marketing. I drive by this building all the time on my way to work and I've always been intrigued by it.
It's really a cool looking historical building and I've always wanted to see the inside of it, so today's our chance!
We'll climb the stairs and see if they play along with us on this debut episode of, "Can I Eat My Lunch In Here?" It'll either go smoothly or we'll get thrown out of the place, but either way it'll be interesting. I have to admit to having butterflies in my stomach as we prepare to enter the building, but that just makes it all the more exciting. Okay, let's go!
The first thing I see upon entering is a "Welcome" sign. That's promising!
There's the reception area, it's really nice in here. Maybe I should've worn a tie, but it's too late for that now, time to see if we can eat lunch in here or not.
This is Amy, the pretty and friendly receptionist at Converse Marketing. She patiently listened as I explained what I wanted to do and told her about the MBIP blog and she told me to hang out while she asked someone if lunch could indeed happen within this historical building on Main Street. And so that's what I dd and minutes later...
Amy came and told me I was more than welcome to have my lunch here in their kitchen/ lunchroom! How cool is this?
My lunch is on the table...
And here's Ted who's a designer here at Converse Marketing. I asked him if he'd like to join me for lunch and he said he was too busy because they were on a deadline for a project. But he did take time to...
Snap a photo of me at the table for this successful debut episode of, "Can I Eat My Lunch In Here?" Okay, time to see what I ordered!
I got the special of the day, the ham and cheese sliders. They're wrapped up individually in foil, like big chunks of hashish. And as you can see, it's all that and a bag of chips, along with a bottle of water.
Here's on of the sliders uncovered. It's hot and it looks and smells great, lets dig in!
Wow, this is so good! Hot smoky ham and melted cream cheese on a bakery-fresh buttery roll. The rich and creamy cheese is the perfect foil for the savory ham and it's a perfect hot lunch on such a Mamas and Papas winter day.
How cool is it that they just let me have my lunch in here by myself and left to my own devices in here? I thought about looking inside of their fridge, but decided that would be overstepping my boundaries.
Check it out, they have booze in here!
Look over here, Bacardi Gold and a box of Duncan Hines chewy fudge brownies! I love it in here!
On my way out Amy gave me a booklet on Converse Manor which was built in 1880 and said we could come back for a full-fledged tour of the building! Very cool! Stay tuned for that and much thanks to Amy, Ted and everyone at Converse Marketing for being such good sports on this debut edition of, "Can I Eat My Lunch In Here?" And of course thanks to Stephanie and Mike for a wonderful lunch from B Easy! We'll see you all tomorrow!
