It’s hard to believe, but I started documenting what used to be the Fleming Potter building over three years ago back in November of 2013 for a post here on MBIP. I continued to take photos of the building as it got bought and started the transformation into what is now called the Persimmon Lofts and you can see those posts, here and here. Persimmon Lofts has started renting out studio and one bedroom apartments recently and I went there this week to take some final photos of the building I worked in for thirteen years back in the ‘80s and early ‘90’s and this completes this photographic journey from the past to the present. Let’s go take a look at what it looks like today!
But before we do, here’s the building from a photo in May of 1966, back when it was Fleming Potter over five decades ago.
And here’s a shot from my last visit in September of 2016 as the renovations on the building were taking place fast and furious. And what does it look like today?
Drumroll please!
Here we are on the corner of Adams and Persimmon and ladies and gentlemen, I now present for your viewing pleasure...
The building formerly known as Fleming Potter, which is now officially, The Persimmon Lofts building!
Here’s some different angles I took of the refurbished and completely remodeled building.
Now let’s go inside and take a look at what it looks like in there. And please note the unplanned, obligatory front door mirror shot. I love it when that happens!
As you can see by the ladder, there’s still some work going on here, but this front foyer with the mailboxes was once the reception area to Fleming Potter. Behind the door over here is the laundry room on the ground level floor (Note: The second unplanned obligatory mirror shot in the second photo!) Nuts, I should’ve brought my dirty clothes with me! Oh well, I guess it won’t kill me to wear the same underwear for three days in a row, but let’s not dwell on that and just keep moving along here!
Okay, this tour can officially begin now, here’s the man responsible for this amazing transformation, Trevor Holmes! Trevor is the developer of the building and has overseen the whole day to day operations for the last couple of years here. Let’s go up the stairs and check out the hallway up here! Nice lighting and I love the wooden floor! Now it’s time to see one of the units in here...
Wow, it’s so nice and spacious and this is just a studio apartment! There’s also one bedrooms and Trevor said that a good portion of them are already taken, but there’s still some available, you can check out rates and contact information right here at their facecrack page. As you can see, the kitchen is stocked with brand new, state-of-the-art appliances and just like the hallway, the floors are wood in here as well. The windows have a great view and a ceiling fan hangs from above. The bathroom is very nice too and check it out, that’s the third obligatory mirror shot in today’s post! I have to admit though, that one was somewhat planned, but I think this is a new record!
Okay, up the stairs and down another hallway to a different apartment. One thing about all the units in here is they have the most spectacular windows and a great view of downtown Peoria.
Some people have started moving into this one bedroom apartment and you can see the boxes in the kitchen across from the living room/entertainment center. The bedroom is nice and once again, the windows and view are breath-taking! The transformation in this building is unbelievable and it’s wonderful to see it refurbished and being put to use in downtown Peoria!
Here we are back on the ground floor. Trevor and his crew did an outstanding job turning the building from a shell of a former printing company and office into a great space for living in downtown Peoria. As I walk out the front doors I have a little sense of deja vu as I look out into the lot where I parked my car for thirteen years. Goodbye Fleming Potter and hello Persimmon Lofts! Thanks to Trevor for taking the time for this tour and for showing me around on past visits! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
