Last Saturday was the ever-popular Record Store Day that’s celebrated once a year in April. Every record store has its own way of commemorating this special day and while I wish I could’ve hit every one in the area, I had to work that day, so I could only go to one. I decided on Younger Than Yesterday, because owner Craig Moore is an MBIP Contributing Writer and pal and he has one of the coolest records stores in the area. So lets make tracks and head over to Younger Than Yesterday and let this vinyl celebration begin!
Here we are at Younger Than Yesterday’s record store. You can’t miss that store front, one of the coolest looking record stores anywhere!
Let’s go inside and let the Record Store Day festivities begin!
I always have to take a photo of all the yellow records dangling from the ceiling in here, it’s the rules, folks!
And here’s two stars of today’s Record Day show, Craig Moore, the owner of Younger Than Yesterday and veteran and legendary WWCT DJ, Jon Symmonds. We last saw Jon when I was a guest DJ on the CT Lunch With Dani. WWCT is broadcasting from the store today.
There’s lots of people in WWCT t-shirts in here, but sadly, I don’t have one...sob!
Matt Warren proudly displays his right index finger for the MBIP camera. I can see why he’s so proud of it, it’s a beauty! We last saw Matt was at The Beatles 50th Anniversary Celebration At Limelight that Craig put together and produced. That was really a magical night, if you missed it, you can see photos of it by clicking here.
There was a lot of drawings and giveaways at the store all day, including several of these rare Jimi Hendrix posters.
As you can see there’s a decent crowd here already and it’s not even noon yet!
Fingers are flipping records at a, well...record pace. Ouch!
If you’re a Beatles fan, you’ll love the giant Abbey Road section devoted to the Fabulous Four!
Here's the new Joan Jett and The Blackhearts album, Unvarnished on vinyl, very cool!
WWCT's host of "The Morning Blend," Marc Alghini peers out from a flying "V" he's made out of two Mothers of Invention Record Covers.
Brett Johnson holds up a King Crimson album cover in best Sleeveface fashion.
Inspired by Brett's pose, Matt Warren pulls another Sleeveface pose for the MBIP camera. Ha! That's a good one! I may have to send this one into the website. I'll let you all know if it gets posted.
Here's local band, The Black Roses with their debut single that was produced by Younger Than Yesterday owner, Craig Moore...
And speaking of The Black Roses here they are setting up on the stage in the back of the store. They're the first of many bands performing here today.
Lauren told me she's a big fan of the band, so she got a seat early up in front of the stage.
Here's Jon again, taking a break from the broadcasting booth with his lovely wife, Val. I noted that Val has a WWCT t-shirt like so many other people in here and I don't have one. Jon said he might be able to fix that.
Alright, the stage lights are lit and it looks like it's just about showtime!
Craig is introducing the band who have taken the stage directly behind him.
Here he is showing off the band's single that he produced.
Ladies and gentlemen, The Black Roses! From left: Gage, Galen, Janelle and Alejandro.
The band sounded great. You should follow their facecrack page and check them out at their next gig.
Here's Craig taking some photos of the band in action.
Is it me or does Gage look like Zal Yanovsky's grandson?
The band put on a great show. They were the first of four bands playing at the store, the others were, Clippoint, The Temporary Tribute Band and Heavy Shake. But sadly I had to go to work, so I missed those bands. Hey, somebody's got to pay for this blog!
And check it out, Jon came through on his promise and scored me a WWCT t-shirt! A perfect ending to a perfect Record Store Day! We'll see you all tomorrow!

Jaws the Cabbie took note of my on-going Joan Jett obsession and sent in this piece of art inspired by today's post. Great work, Jaws! Thanks!
