Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, Wing•Stop and The MBIP World Headquarters.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome this week’s hosts, Wing•Stop and The MBIP World Headquarters!
Okay, my original plan for the evening was to go to the newest Mexican restaurant in the area, Jalisco Bar & Grill in Peoria Heights.
I had read about this restaurant that just opened up in the PJ Star and wanted to check it out. Apparently a lot of other people had the same idea and when I drove up to the restaurant the parking lot was completely full and it looked jam-packed. I decided to go and try it out another night because it’s hard to take pictures and do a blog in a crowded restaurant.
I drove around and decided that maybe I’d make a home-cooked Saturday night meal for a change and headed over to Schnucks grocery store to pick up some items to cook for a Saturday night dinner.
As I drove in, I spotted the Wing•Stop restaurant. I’ve never eaten there because it’s a chain and I try to eat local on this blog.
I decided to go in and try out their wings for this week’s Saturday night dinner. Let’s go in and start this somewhat improvisational Saturday night!
Usually I ask to take pictures in a place of business, but there was other people in here and I didn’t feel like trying to explain the blog in here, so I took a few secretive pictures and decided to get my order to go and eat it back at the MBIP World Headquarters.
Here’s the front counter where you place your order.
They have a small dining area over here.
One of the reasons I decided not to eat in here is they don’t serve beer and you can’t eat chicken wings on a Saturday night without beer. It’s just the rules.
They have this odd drink machine in here which allows you to mix 100 different kinds of drinks. That’s too much decision for me and that ice looks a little funky to me!
They call themselves the “Wing Experts” and have photos of airplanes on the tables.
I don’t think that’s the type of wings most people associate with a chicken wing restaurant. They might want to have a meeting with their branding department!
Okay, we got our to-go order and here we are at the door of the MBIP World Headquarters for a rare Saturday night at home dinner!
Here we are in the Joan Jett customized dining room!
Check out the bag, “Where Flavor Gets Its Wings.”
Uh, wouldn’t it make more sense to say, “Where Wings Get Their Flavor?”
Hello, branding department? Sheesh!
Okay, here’s this week’s Saturday night meal.
I put out the paper towels because they didn’t include any napkins with the dinner.
They’re a chicken wing restaurant and they don’t give you any napkins? I’m trying to stay positive, but this is a bad note to start on!
I took some of the Syberg’s Wing Sauce from last week’s hot dog post and used that to dip the fries in from our dinner order.
The French Fries were crisp and very tasty. They were seasoned nicely and were a nice start to our Saturday night at home dinner!
And I cracked a beer to use as a palate cleanser between portions. Cheers!
I got two chicken tenders and ordered them with the Atomic Sauce, which is their hottest sauce they offer.
The tenders were really saucy and while the sauce was hot, it wasn’t crazy hot and didn’t really have a lot of flavor. They were breaded a little too heavily for my taste and I don’t think I’d ever order them again.
Okay, time for more palate cleansing!
Now on to the star of tonight’s dinner, the chicken wings. I got an order of eight wings with their Original Hot Sauce.
The wings are pretty tiny and while they’re cooked decently, there’s not a lot of flavor to them. Like the chicken tenders, there’s heat, but not a lot of flavor.
For a place that bills itself as “The Wing Experts,” they don’t really live up to that title.
These wings aren’t horrible, but they aren’t that great.
All in all, this was a bit of a disappointing Saturday night dinner.
Well when this happens, there’s just one thing to do…
Go and have a beer with Joan Jett! Cheers, everyone!
