This year marks the 40th anniversary of Younger Than Yesterday record store. The store is owned and operated by Craig Moore who wears many hats in his life. He’s a retail store owner, a musician, a concert organizer, promoter and performer, he’s a writer and you can read about the history of this store, which started out at Peoria Record Company, by clicking here.
Craig’s had a love of records and music since he was we little Moore and you can read about his Permanent Record by clicking right here.
The space next to Younger Than Yesterday opened up a while back and Craig took it over and has expanded the store. So of course, I thought I’d wander over and take some photos for the blog and hang out for the afternoon with Craig. And that’s exactly what I did, the photos of my fun afternoon at the expanded Younger Than Yesterday are below!
Here we are at Younger Than Yesterday record store. There’s the front of the building and below that photo is the front of the new expansion area that we’ll be touring soon!
I love the front windows of this store with the a painting of the Fabulous Four, Nipper, the RCA Dog, a vintage turntable, a neon Beatles tribute and Johnny Cash flipping the bird on a t-shirt!
Let’s go inside and see what’s happening in here on this fine afternoon!
There’s the store in all it’s vinyl glory and there’s the man himself, the owner of Younger Than Yesterday, Craig Moore. Always a pleasure to see Craig and catch up on things. And speaking of things…
I mentioned Craig is an organizer, promoter and performer of live shows here in Peoria and he has a doozy of a show coming up in November.
He has not one, but two shows that will be a tribute to The Rolling Stones here in Peoria at the Grand Showroom of the 3300 Event Center. The dates for this show which will feature the top local musicians in and around this area happen on Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30.
You can read all about the show by clicking here and you can buy advance tickets by clicking on this link. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this show!
There’s Craig amidst the sea of vinyl in the main section of Younger Than Yesterday.
This is the biggest selection of vinyl LP’s in Peoria and beyond. He has titles and selections in here that you can’t find on the internet, so a personal visit is not only mandatory, but it’s also a fun experience!
While there is a huge selection of vinyl albums to check out in here, there’s so much more including cassette and eight track tapes, stereo equipment, t-shirts and even vintage copies of Rolling Stone magazine!
And now it’s time to check out the brand new addition to Younger Than Yesterday, Craig led the way into the brand new room and it is spectacular in here!
Craig has a large selection of collectible records in here and box sets you won’t find anywhere else. There’s a treasure trove of vinyl in here that all record collectors will drool over!
He has the largest selection of 45 singles in here. A lot of shops overlook these gems, but not Younger Than Yesterday!
There’s more impressive stereo equipment on display in here too!
You have to love the vintage KISS and Rolling Stones pinball machines!
There’s historical and vintage artwork on display on the walls in here.
There’s the first flyer for The Peoria Record Company from 1984, wooden KISS tribute art made by Pete Fogelberg which was on the outside of the first store on Main Street, there’s the original sign for Younger Than Yesterday, the pandemic art from The Wall store covering is on the walls in here and there’s a poster featuring a Mick Jagger photo that Craig took from a recent Rolling Stones show he attended this year! Very cool!
And you have to love these platform boots Craig wore back in the days of his time with the band Ilmo Smokehouse!
Thanks for the tour, Craig, the store is amazing and you should stop by and check it out as soon as you can. The address is right below!
